Lulough Kneeshaw's Sewing Exercise Book

A sewing exercise book that was owned and used by Lulough Kneeshaw (nee Latimer).

From the notes of donator June Chambers:

"I interviewed Edgar & Lulough not long after we moved to Bond Head. Edgar was easy with telling his stories, Lulough not so much..."
"Lulough Kneeshaw (nee Latimer) was born March 6, 1897. She grew up on a farm north of Alliston, Lot 17 Essa & Tosoronto [Tosorontio] within earshot of Camp [Borden] where sometimes in the early morning she could hear drums and bugles...She married Edgar Kneeshaw on [January] 7, 1920. The couple lived in West Gwillimbury for a while before moving to a farm, a few miles south of Bond Head. They had one son, Keith. Lulough attended a business school in Barrie. She worked at a flour milling company in Bradford."
"My thoughts about the sewing book. Lulough was a married lady when she decided to sew. She was likely working in Bradford at the time and had access to the high school where she could have taken night classes."

An Electric Meter Register book provided by the Department. It provides an example of the way such information was tracked at the time and how it would have been tracked in the Bradford West Gwillimbury area.
According to an Electricity Inspection Service hand-out from the same time period as the book: "A Meter Register Book is supplied by the Department of Trade and Commerce to contractors for The purpose of assisting them in complying with the provisions of the Electricity Inspection Act, and the regulations established thereunder. The following requirement are necessary...The Electricity Inspection Act provides a penalty of fifty dollars for any neglect in respect of the above requirements."

Simcoe South Women's Institute Annual Meeting

More than 100 delegates attended the district annual meeting of Simcoe South Women's Institutes last week at Alliston. Mrs. Russel Browning of Churchill headed the prize winners in the Log Book competition. Above are (left to right): Mrs. Gordon Mallion of Tottenham, who judged the entries, Mrs. Norman Baxter, Everett, third-prize winner, Mrs. Browning, and Mrs. William Sutherland, Bond Head, district history curator.
