179 attend May rally of Presbyterian WMS

"The May Rally of the Barrie Presbyterian Women's Missionary Society held at the First Presbyterian Church, Collingwood, was attended by about 179 women. President Mrs. Forrest McKee, Collingwood, led using 'Let Your Light Shine' as her theme. The mediations were given by Mrs. Bernell McKay and Mrs. Mel Strachan of the the Central Oro group. Reports on the Synodical meetingg held at the Kingsway Church in Islington, were given. Mrs. R. H. McKee, Collingwood, gave ideas to everyone on how to create interest in their own congregations during her talk on Christian concerns. The ladies of the hosting church served a salad luncheon. Rev. Douglas Wilson of the First Presbyterian Church, took the afternoon session beginning with a communion service. Mrs.Stanley Bloss, area secretary of the Toronto-Kinston synodical, was the guest speaker. In her address, she pointed out that faith and truth make for a beautiful life; they wipe out all doubts. Tea and fruit breads were served at the close of the meeting."

Guests at the Christian Business Men's Committee and 16th annual ladies' night, were left to right; J. Keith Wood, chairman; Mrs. M. G. Faris, Paul McCarroll, and Leroy Soper. More than 250 guests attended the dinner at Central United Church.

Luthernas Begin Worship in Barrie

"The same Lutheran Synod which is sponsoring Trinity Lutheran Church of Bradford is beginning a new mission in Barrie this coming Sunday.
The initial service is scheduled for this Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. The place for this service in Codrington School auditorium. The preacher will be Mr. Milan Babel, who will serve the Barrie area as student pastor. The officiant will be Pastor Andrew Brondos of Bradford.
The Bradford Lutherans will journey to Barrie to join in this worship service. They will form an auto cavalcade at their church and drive to Barrie together.
The decision to begin a Lutheran congregation in Barrie came as a result f a Lutheran rally held there in February of this year. At that service about twenty Lutheran families were represented. Since then contacts have been made with several more families."

Drummond and Professor Norman High, of the Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph, were guest speakers at the general meeting of the Simcoe County Library Co-Operative, held in Barrie on October 7th. Stressing the fact that reading brings inspiration, information, and a broadening of our appreciation of life, as well as, in some cases, more economic security, the speakers discussed the particular importance of reading in a democracy." ...

Ont. Provincial Police Set Up New Detachment in Bradford

"A Headquarters Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, covering the southern part of No. 7 (Barrie) District, is to be located in Bradford, according to information given The Witness this week.
The new local police set-up is expected to go into effect January 1st, or as soon as convenient living quarters can be secured. The detachment will consist of five men, all of whom will reside in and work from Bradford.
The personnel of the detachment will comprise Provincial Constable D. Adair, now of Gravenhurst, Provincial Constables C. Kreuger and R. Murphy, now of Bond Head; Provincial Constable George Herries and Provincial Constable H. Sparling, both at present located here.
The town will continue to be policed by Provincial Constables Reg. Wilson and E. Morrison, who have been in charge here of late."
