Description : After a lengthy illness, Hazel Atkinson of R.R. 3, Schomberg, and a well-known resident of this area, passed away Thursday, Sept. 9 at Peel Memorial Hospital in Brampton. She was born Hazel Jane Lucille Armstrong on Sept. 23, 1895 on the 7th Line of Mono Township, Lot 30, near Rosemont. Her parents were John William Armstrong and his wife, Elizabeth Murphy. Her grandparents were Andrew Murphy and his wife, Frances Little and Robert Armstrong, and his wife, Jane McElroy - all natives of Ireland. Mrs. Atkinson was quite proud of her Irish ancestry. As a girl, Mrs. Atkinson attended School No. 17, Mono Township and later Alliston High School. In religion, she was an Anglican and attended St. Luke's Church, Mulmur Township. After her marriage in 1922 to Leonard Atkinson, they moved to Lot 15, 2nd Concession of Tecumseth Township and three years later to Lot 17, 11th Concession, King Township and in 1945 to Lot 17, 10th Concession, King Township. In later years, she remained in the same area. Her only brother, Oswald, predeceased her in 1953. A son, Wesley, passed away Jan. 29, 1948 and her husband, Leonard passed away March 30, 1956. She leaves the following family: Phyllis (Mrs. Joseph Kerr), R.R. 1, Bolton; Evelyn (Mrs. Hiram Littleton), Bradenton, Florida; Harvey, Bolton; Violet (Mrs. Gordon Troyer), R.R. 1, Woodbridge; Risdon and Roy of R.R. 3, Schomberg. Also there are 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She rested at Egan's Funeral Home, Bolton until Sunday at 2:30. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. Bob Leckey, Anglican minister, Bolton. Burial took place at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bolton. Pallbearers were her nephews: Lloyd Armstrong, Joe Maw, Ben Parr, Ross Atkinson, Ed Hebor, and Bill Clark. Flower bearers were Harold Fuller, Stan McGill, Jim Connell and Art Richards. It was a largely-attended funeral with friends and relatives coming from as far away as Windsor and North Bay to pay their respects.

Description : The knowledge that Mrs. Gordon S. Faris was so seriously ill that hope was not extended for her recovery was only exceeded in sorrow and sympathy among the members of her family and her friends, by her passing at Deep River Hospital on Thursday, May 21. Mrs. Faris had been moved to the nearby hospital a few weeks before her death. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Moore of Queensville, as Kathleen Moore she taught in the High Schools of Penetanguishene and Aurora, and later, when teaching on Barrie Collegiate staff, she met and married Gordon S. Faris about sixteen years ago, while the latter was employed at the Eugenia Power Plant of the Ontario Hydro Commission. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Barrie and from there to Brampton where Mr. Faris was superintendent and where they resided for a number of years. From Brampton they were transferred to Toronto and later to Des Joachims, when Mr. Faris was made the first superintendent of that plant. Mrs. Faris made a full share of contribution to Mr. Faris' successful career, a success which resulted from his ability and conscientious fulfilment of duty. Equally conscientious, and amply qualified by virtue of her ability and educational training, Mrs. Faris was a willing, energetic and capable leader in all deserving projects in the communities in which they resided. Her most devoted energy was given in the interests of her church and especially in its missionary work. While residing in Brampton she was much in demand as a speaker at W.M.S., W.A. and farm group meetings. To the new settlement of Rolphton, at the Des Joachims plant, she took this enthusiasm and unselfish willingness to serve. She loved the life in that new village and an indication of her interests there was recorded in these columns two weeks ago in the story of the opening of the Rolphton Community Church.Mrs. Faris is survived by her husband, Gordon S. Faris of Rolphton (formerly of Maple Farm, Scotch Settlement), and their two children, Mary Lou, 13, and Paul, 11; one sister, Mrs. Sydney Thompson (Irene) of Queensville; and one brother, J. Dan Moore, of Georgetown. In their great loss the bereaved family have the sincerest sympathy of a wide circle of friends.The funeral was held on Monday afternoon from the Strasler Funeral Home, Queensville, and interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford. The services were conducted by Rev. E. Warren of Queensville, assisted by Rev. Hugh Shannon of Hawkstone and formerly of Queensville who is a personal friend of Mr. and Mrs. Faris, and by Rev. E. C. McLarnon of Bradford. The pallbearers were four friends, Ronald Sennett, William Burkholder and Terry Doane of Queensville, and William Hillaby of Newmarket; and two cousins, Morley Bedford and Sydney Gourlay of Toronto.

FLACH - Frank John, peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 1994, at the Holland Christian Homes, Brampton at the age of 93. Beloved husband of the late Trien-Flach-Horlings. Dear father of Rena Hijma and her husband Richard. He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren Catherine Jotautas, David Hijma and Donald Hijma and his great grandchildren Michael, Rebecca, Jeffrey and Gregory. Survived by his sisters Adrie Meeuwse-Flach, Wilhelmina Kopperjan-Flach, Hettie Horlings-Flach, Joan Goodhoofd-Flach of Holland and of Brampton and one older brother Dirk H. Flach, U.S. A. also numerous nephews and nieces in Canada, U.S.A. and Holland. Predeceased by brothers Gerrit Flach and Henk Flach and sisters Francina de Jong-Flach and Teuntje Flach all in Holland. Funeral services were held from the Ward Funeral Home, Brampton and a memorial service was held at Holland Christian Homes on Tuesday, July 26, 1994. Interment at Meadowvale Cemetery in Brampton. Memorial donations may be made to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation.

HAMSTRA, Klasiena - Peacefully at Peel Memorial Hospital, Brampton, on February 23, 1991, at the age of 82, Klasiena Hamstra, beloved wife of Jacob, loving mother of Dorothy and her husband Matt Kwantes, Hank and his wife Pauline, Lena and her husband Steve Weber, Shirley and her husband Dave Kidd, Frances and her husband Keith Oussoren and Agnes and her husband Andy Kramer.
