Description : Died in St. Michael's Hospital, where he had spent the past six months. Husband of Mary Elizabeth Maher. Father of Peter, Mrs. F. Wilkinson (Mitzi), Mrs. A.J. Abel (Dorothy), Miss Marjorie Hirlehey, and Mrs. Glenn Boyd (Alice Joan). Brother of Mrs. McWilliams of Bradford and Frank of Toronto. Born in Sunderland. Telegrapher with the railway at several stations before being appointed station master at Bradford forty years ago. Retired in 1937 and took up gardening, tending to his own garden and the garden of the Forty Martyrs' Church. Funeral from Holy Rosary Church, St. Clair Ave., Toronto, at 9 a.m. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Toronto. Pallbearers: Glenn Boyd, Harold Hirlehey, George Cushinan, Frank Maher, Pat Maher, and P. Michell.

Friends called at the Lathangue and Skwarchuk Funeral Home 30 Simcoe St. Bradford. Funeral service was held in the chapel on Tuesday, April 6, 1993 at 1:30 p.m. Spring interment Sylvan Cemetery, Waubamik, Ontario.

Iceton, Hubert Paul obituary

Description : The death of Mr. Hubert Paul Iceton, a resident of Bradford for almost fifty years, occurred at the Western Hospital, Toronto, suddenly. Mr. Iceton's death followed an operation performed in an endeavour to remedy a heart ailment from which he suffered. Born in Darlington, County Durham, England, 79 years ago, he came to Canada in 1912, first coming to Toronto, then farming near Lindsay, before coming to this district in 1919. The deceased was married January 7, 1915, in Toronto to Mary Ann Corbett, who predeceased him on June 9, 1933. He is survived by a family of five daughters, and one son, namely, Mrs. J. J. Clare (Mary), Oakville; Dorothy Mae Iceton, Willowdale; Harold V. Iceton, Bradford; Mrs. Albert Wood (Evelyn), R.R. 1, Bradford; Aileen T. Iceton, Bradford; and Mrs. Frank Bebb (Pauline), Barrie, and by one brother, William T. Iceton, Toronto. Three sisters predeceased him. A member of Holy Martyrs of Japan Church, Bradford, the funeral was held in Toronto from St. Helen's Church, with interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Toronto. Monsignor J. O'Conner conducted the services and the pallbearers were Messrs. J. J. Clare, Richard Clare, David Clare, Albert Wood, Frank Bebb and John Raper.

Kushner, Ira death

Man killed in boating accident on Holland River. A 34-year-old Toronto man was killed last Tuesday (July 15) in a boating accident just north of the Yonge Street bridge coming into Bradford. Ira Kushner fell from a boat pulling a water skier when the boat's driver swerved to avoid what he thought was an obstacle in the path of the boat and skier. According to York Regional Police, the boat hit a patch of bulrushes, and Mr. Kushner fell overboard and hit his head on the boat's propeller. He was pronounced dead on arrival at York County Hospital in Newmarket. The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m., about one and a half miles northeast of the bridge over the Schomberg (Holland) River. The police investigation is continuing.

"Pte. Long's Death.

Weston, April 12 - (Special) - Rev. Dr. Long received word to-day of the death of his son, Pte. A. G. Long, by shell shock in Belgium on March 29th. He was with the 18th Battalion, and formerly with the Goodyear Company at Calgary. He was well known at Brampton and Bradford. Pte. Long spent Christmas Day in the front line of trenches. Two brothers and two sisters and the parents survive."

Macartney, Dr. George Pierce death

Description : George Pierce Macartney, Phar. D., M.B., M.D., C.M., who was born in Bradford on April 28, 1866; who left here at the age of fifteen, and returned two years ago to spend his last years here, died on Sunday, November 10, at the age of 91. Dr. Macartney enjoyed remarkably good health for a man of his years until a few weeks before his death. When George Pierce Macartney left Bradford in 1881 he went to Thorold to apprentice in pharmacy in his uncle's store, and in 1886 he obtained his Ontario Pharmacy degree. He then attended University of Toronto and secured his M.D. degree in May, 1891. In 1895 he married Miss Marie Niles of Chatham, New York, and then, being resident in New York, he secured his Pharmacy degree, City of New York, in July 1899. Later he practised in Niagara Falls, N.Y., as a medical doctor for a few years before going to Stratford, Ontario, where for about forty years he practiced as a medical doctor and operated a drug store, being assisted in the latter by his nephew, Edward Niles, who took over the drug store upon Dr. Macartney's retirement, but who predeceased his uncle this past year. Dr. Macartney was bereaved by the death of his wife in 1944, and after her death he went to live with his sister, Miss Anne Macartney in Midland. Miss Macartney died in December, 1954, and Dr. Macartney remained in Midland for a year before coming to Bradford where he spent the past two years with Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Fuller. Dr. Macartney is survived by a nephew, Frank Macartney of Toronto, and two nieces, Misses Grace and Edith Macartney of Thorold. Another nephew, George Niles, is in Florida. Dr. Macartney was a member, and active in the work, of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Stratford.The funeral was held from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home, Bradford, on Tuesday, November 12, and interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto.The Pallbearers were members of Bradford Rotary Club, namely, W. Fuller, V. Coutts, J. Everitt, F. Maurino, C. Ritchie, N. Porter.
