B.B. Collings Furniture Store

The article accompanying this photograph gives a quick history of B.B. "Ben" Collings' life and business. By this point, his furniture and undertaking business was only four years old (starting in 1902) and the storefront is shown in the photograph, located on the south-west corner of Holland and Drury Streets. The post office is opposite. It was said in the showroom, there would "be found some of the nicest furniture one could wish to place in his home."
Starting in 1897, Ben spent four years studying the mattress making trade in Toronto.

Councillor Cook died Thursday, hundreds pay their respects

"Fred Cook, a man who for many years was a social and political influence in Bradford, died last Thursday in York County Hospital at 73. Mr. Cook was admitted to the hospital April 6 suffering from a heart attack. Funeral services were held in Trinity Anglican Church, Bradford, on Monday afternoon with the Rector, Rev. Jack House and Bishop Hunt, a lifelong friend of Mr. Cook's, conducting the service. Hundreds of friends and associates gathered in the little church on Church St. that Fred Cook served so well. Mayor Joe Magani led a delegation of members of council and the town administrative staff. Many officials representing the various surrounding municipalities also attended the special funeral service. During his 73 years, Fred Cook's life revolved around the town of his birth, Bradford."

Description : After an illness of about two weeks, following a stroke, Mrs. W.J. Griffiths passed away in Newmarket Hospital on Tuesday, July 8, at the age of 77 years. Mrs. Griffith's maiden name was Annie Thomas and she was born and educated in Wales. She came to Canada in 1911 and in Toronto she met and married J.W. Griffiths, now of Gilford. About two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Griffith moved to Gilford. Mrs. Griffith is survived by her husband and one son, Thomas Hugh, of Gilford, in which district the family is well and most favourably known.An Anglican in religion, the funeral services, held from the T. Kilkenny & Son Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon, were conducted by Rev. H.G. Blake, with interment in St. Paul's Cemetery, Coulson's Hill.Six nephews were pallbearers, namely, Thos. Veith, Wm. Ippitson, Wm. Saunders, Clyde Stewart, Howard Reeves and Mel Gallinger, all of Toronto.
