            Description : Muriel Elizabeth, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dolph Kneeshaw, Gilford, married Stanley Eugene, son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Cairns, Bradford. Rev. W. Spurgeon Butt officiated and Mr. Frank Dutcher of Barrie, uncle of the bride, played the wedding music. The bride was attended by Miss Marion Bell of Gilford, and groomsman, as well as cousin, was Mr. Milton Fisher of Toronto. The ushers were Mr. Gordon Kneeshaw, brother of the bride, and Mr. Jack Richardson of Toronto, cousin of the groom. The wedding took place at Ebenezer United Church and the reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. Upon returning from a honeymoon, Mr. and Mrs. Cairns will reside on the groom's farm near Bradford.

            HORDYK Adrianus Reier at his home in Gilford on Thursday, September 3, 1987 in his 47th year. Dearest friend and loving husband of Greta VanLuyk. Dear father of Carl, Anna and Steven. He is remembered and deeply cherished for his love of family, his parents Cornelius and Anny Hordyk, his sisters and brothers, Gerie and Ary Luyendijk, Marianne and Rijk Hammer, Elias and Corrie Hordyk, Geerhardus Hordyk all of the Netherlands. Dear son-in-law of Gertrude and the lated [sic] Jack VanLuyk. Dear brother-in-law of Adrian and Sara VanLuyk, John and Anita Brouwer and Peter VanLuyk. Also remembered by many loving nieces and nephews. Friends called at Lathangue & Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Street, Bradford. Service was held at the Ansnorveldt Christian Reform Church, Saturday, September 5, 1987, at 11:00a.m. Interment Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford. Donations to the Fresh Air Fund at the Toronto Star or to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.

            The Gilford Station was a popular stop along the railway bringing mail to the surrounding area and vacationers to the beach. It is now in the Simcoe County Museum.

            The first temporary train station was built in 1853 with the coming of the new train service up to Barrie. A permanent station was built in 1870.

            Signing the register following their Saturday wedding in Ebenezer United Church are Mr. and Mrs. Allan Wesley Brown. The bride is the former Betty Yvonne Kneeshaw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kneeshaw of Gilford, and her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Brown of Dalston. After a wedding trip to the United States and EAstern Ontario, the couple will be making their home at Dalston.

            Glassford Hotel

            The former Glassford Hotel in Gilford. Built in 1853, it operated as a hotel until the late 1880s. Leonard and Maria Bell bought the house in 1925, and it became the home of their son and daughter-in-law Owen and Helen in 1942.
