Writing on the back reads: "William McWilliam and his wife came to Canada from Banff in Scotland, near Inverness. They settled north of Bradford, Ontario. They paid their own way out from Scotland, so said my aunt Annie McWilliam. They came out sometime after 1800."

Brick detail on the facade of the Evans/Hayhurst house is Flemish bond showing darker coloured bricks as stretchers and yellow ones as headers to achieve a basket weave effect.
