Dear father of Roxanne Cook and Karla Baynes. Dear stepfather of Richard, Brian and Christopher Foster. Dear brother of Florence Newitt, Jack Newitt and predeceased by Frank. Orillia Mayor John Palmer is dead of a heart attack. Palmer, sixty-five, was at home recuperating from surgery when he began experiencing chest pains on Wednesday and returned to hospital. He died on Friday morning. Palmer was a teacher before running for political office in 1988. He began teaching at Orillia District Collegiate & Vocational Institute in 1966, and retired as head of the history department in 1983. He leaves a wife, Phyllis, three children and three grandchildren.
