Three contestants for the nomination in Simcoe-centre spoke after Mr. Evans reminisced about his last 16 years at Queen's Park. Evans described his various duties, told a joke about Stuart Smith, and promised the nominees that the winner would have all his support and advice."

"Jim Church, chairman of the Bradford Public Utilities Commission was appointed last week to the finance committee of the Ontario Municipal Electric Association. Mr. Church, a 17-year veteran of the PUC, will work with fellow commissioners from across Ontario for the upcoming year, dealing with the financial operation of the association. A life-long resident of Bradford, Mr. Church is also a member of the Bradford volunteer fire department. The Ontario Municipal Electric Association is the spokesman for more than 340 municipal utilities, including Bradford. The OMEA represents more than two million residential, commercial and industrial customers served by municipal distribution systems. These customers consume two-thirds of the electrical power in Ontario."

"Mr. and Mrs. Jim Simone of RR 2, Newmarket are the lucky winners of a trip of De Peuter Interiors of Bradford. The second annual draw was held in the De Peuter showroom October 2, and the Simones were present, along with several other people to witness as their daughter , Chris, drew the lucky ticket, out of 2,000. "It was a chance in a million," Lawrence De Peuter said later. "We had asked Chris to draw the ticket because her hand was small enough to fit easily into the drum."Jim Simone said Monday that they plan to take the trip sometime in late November. "The Trans-Canada Pipeline-snakes its way across a field near Cookstown as workers for the gas company put sections of the line through hydro static tests. The work has been going on in the area for several works and officials say it will be finished shortly."

"Aida Lynn of Bradford won first prize at the Bradford Fire Hall Saturday night, October 26. The snowmobile is an Evinrude Norseman, valued at $699. "I never in all my life won anything like this before," said Aida Lynn. Proceeds from the draw will go towards the purchase of new equipment for the Fire Hall."
