Description : Although it had been known for some weeks that Mr. Stanley Stewart was in a very serious condition of health, it was hoped that his recovery might be possible. However, such was not to be the case, and on Friday January 26, he passed away at his home,
Concession 9, West Gwillimbury, in his 63rd year. Six weeks before his death he was suddenly stricken, and during the weeks which elapsed between that time and his death his progress gave little reason for hope to members of his family and those under whose professional skill he was being treated.Born on
Concession 11, West Gwillimbury, Mr. Stewart had been a lifelong resident of the township, where he held the highest esteem of a wide circle, and, by choice of those who had known him throughout the years, had been given positions of trust and responsibility. He was a member of St. John's Presbyterian Church, Coulson's Hill, and for twelve years had been church treasurer. For twenty-one years he was a member of the school board of S.S. No. 9 West Gwillimbury, and for the past nine years had been a valued member of the Township Council, retiring only at the close of 1939 owing to ill health. He was also a member of the Orange Order, Coulson's Hill Lodge.Born on a farm, the deceased had spent his entire life farming in West Gwillimbury. In 1907 Stanley Stewart married Mary Ethel Kneeshaw at Bradford, and she, with their family of six sons and three daughters, namely: Kenneth, London; Aubrey, Toronto; Gordon, Orval; Douglas and Rose, at home; Beth, Toronto; Doris, Toronto; Ruth, at home, survive him. Also surviving are one grandson, Jimmie Stewart, of Toronto; three brothers, Fred, Toronto; Herbert, Bradford; John, on the homestead; and three sisters, Mrs. Donald Gray, Scotch Settlement; Mrs. Harry Albrecht, Kitchener; and Miss Roberta Stewart, on the homestead. These sorrowing members of the family have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends and neighbours in their bereavement. The funeral, which was very largely attended, was held from his late residence on Monday afternoon at 3,30 o'clock. Rev. Graham, pastor of his church conducted the funeral service and interment was in St. John' Cemetery, Coulson's Hill. The palbearers were Messrs. Herbert and John Stewart; Roy and Wilbert Kneeshaw, E.J. Evans and Bismark Roberts.
