Mr. Brooks was 73, and suffered a heart attack.He leaves his wife, and son, Robert, St. Thomas, and sister Alice of Newmarket.Mr. Brooks retired from the clerk-treasurer's post at Newmarket two years ago after 17 years of service, but he never really retired" from community affairs. He was secretary of the Holland Valley Conservation Authority and manager-treasurer of the County of York United Hospitals campaign. He was also present at municipal functions and took an active part.In 1962 Newmarket named him "Citizen of the Year". He is a past master of the Masonic lodge and was active in Trinity United Church Newmarket.During World War I he served with the 127th battalion a unit which was raised locally.Mr. Brooks was born in Mount Albert and attended school there and at Belleville's Albert College. For some years he worked with Office Specialty Ltd. before entering municipal work."
