Ex-warden won riding 5 times

"Former warden of Simcoe County, D. Arthur Evans. MPP for Centre Simcoe, won the riding for the Progressive Conservative party five times during his 16 years as a member of the Ontario Legislature. Mr. Evans has announced he will be retiring at the end of his current term. George Taylor, Barrie lawyer, has been chosen the next party candidate to stand in the next provincial election. Simcoe County warden in 1958, Warden elected to the legislature on September 20, 1960, when the late Leslie M. Frost was Ontario premier. Mr. Evans ran in a by-election when the seat became vacant through the death of the late George G. Johnston."

DUNCAN, William H. - Suddenly at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie on Sunday, August 22, 1993, Bill Duncan of R.R. #1, Churchill in his 71st year. Dear son of the late Ida and Robert Duncan. Survived by his cousins. Friends called at the Lathangue and Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Street, Bradford. Service was held in the chapel on Tuesday, August 24, 1993 at 2 p.m. Interment at 6th Line Cemetery, Innisfil. Donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Doubt, Jean Victoria (R.N. Graduate Toronto East General Hospital, 1957) -- after a lengthy illness at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie on Thursday, September 24, 1987. Jean Victoria Doubt (Sturgeon) aged 52, beloved wife of Robert Morley Doubt of Stroud, dear daughter of Vaaletta (Mitchell) Sturgeon and the late William Robert Sturgeon. Beloved sister of Florence and her husband Ken Blanchard, Robert and his wife Doris.Dyce Margaret and her husband Grant Britton. Loved by nieces, Carolee, Heather, Ann, Jennifer and Katherine and nephew Richard. Also survived by 4 great nieces and one great nephew. Friends called at Lathangue & Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe St., Bradford. Service was held in the chapel on Saturday, September 26th, 1987 at 2:00 pm. Interment St. John's Cemetery, Coulson's Hill. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Trinitarian Bible Society would be appreciated.

Dalston church parishioners re-create the 'good old days'

"Members and visitors at Dalston United Church took a step back in time Sunday. Their minister, Rev. Arnie Chamberlain, dressed in the garb of a circuit preacher. Their church became a log house with no windows, an open doorway, no floor, and walls caked with mud. And their services came from an 1825 Methodist prayer book. Sunday marked the half-way point in a year of celebrations for the church's 150th anniversary. Parishioners and visitors numbering 150, held services in a small tent next to the church on Highway 93 for an old-fashioned tent and picnic meeting..."

Miss Beverley Douglas of London was maid of honour and the bridesmaids were the bride's sister, Miss Joan Tait, and the groom's sister, Miss Mary Jane Collings. Alastair Sinclair of Newmarket, and formerly of Bradford, was groomsman, and the ushers were also school friends of the groom, Paul Smith of Bradford, George Jackson of Toronto and formerly of Bradford, and Donald Richardson of London. Mr. and Mrs. Collings will reside in London, Ont., the groom having been appointed assistant engineer for Middlesex County.
