Description : Samuel and Mathilda McMaster and Roy and Merle Leslie, all of Alliston, died when their car hit a tree on No. 10 Simcoe County Road, three miles south of Alliston. Lloyd Gerrard of Aliston suffered a concussion and shock.

"...In order that taxpayers and citizens of our municipalities may have a better appreciation of the expenditures being made with respect to unemployment relief, it is important the tax bills and demands to be issued for taxes levied by municipalities in 1916 show very clearly how much money is being provided by each municipality for its share of unemployment relief expenditures, and the mill rates levied for the purpose..."

The local Canadian Corps Association's night of Bingo, an Auction Sale and Dance drew a good crowd to the Town Hall on Monday evening when about $310 was cleared. This money will be used for the purchase of gifts for the boys of the district now serving overseas." ...

"The Canadian Government sold Victory Bonds to Canadian citizens, private corporations and various organizations in order to raise funds to pay for the war. The bonds were a loan to the government that could be redeemed with interest after 5,10, or 20 years and were released during 5 different campaigns between 1915 and 1919. In 1915 a hundred million dollars worth of Victory Bonds was issued and quickly purchased."
