Yesterday: Bradford Public School

This week "Yesterday" features a photograph of the pupils at Bradford Public School in 1912 submitted by Max Morris of Stayner. Mr. Morris recalls the principal of the school was Mr. Gordon. Five girls in the front row Mr. Morris can identify are (left to right) Marion Ritchie, a Moore girl, a Peterman girl, a Hirleyhey (her sister is standing directly behind her), and Miss Saint. Other names in the photograph include Davey, Woods, Wardman, McKinstry, Faris, Jermyn, Metcalf, Stoddaart, Spence, Bowser, and Parks.

Yonge Street 200th Anniversary Mural

Mural celebrating the 200th Anniversary of Yonge Street, made in 1997 and restored in July of 2007. In 2007, the sesquicentennial of the Town of Bradford, a bubble noting this occasion was added to the mural by original artist, Bill Lewotchko.

"The First Bradford Brownies served tea and cookies to about 70 members of the Gay Sixties senior citizens' club last week. Seven-year-olds Evelyn Schlarb and Libbie Evans did the honors for Lila Proctor (left) and Bertha Langford, both John street residents. The club's upcoming activities include a trip to Barrie on Saturday, a trip to Woodbine raceway July 7, and a picnic at Midhurst in August."

Young, Egerton & Lizzie Bingham

Description : Rev. Egerton Ryerson Young, Wesleyan Minister, of Hamilton, to Lizzie R., eldest daughter of the late Joseph Bingham, Esq., of Bradford. The wedding took place in the Adelaide St. Wesleyan Church in Toronto. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Dr. Ryerson.

Young, Rev. Egerton Ryerson obituary

Description : Rev. Egerton Ryerson Young. Age: 70th year. Noted Canadian Missionary and Author. Born in Smith's Falls in 1840, a son of Rev. William Young, a pioneer Methodist preacher. Taught school until 1863, when he joined the ministry. Married Elizabeth Bingham, of Bradford, in 1867. Was called to the North West, and became a negotiator between the aboriginals and government officials. Returned to Ontario because of his health, and became an author and lecturer in England. He wrote about life among natives. Survived by his wife and five children: Rev. E.R. Young, P.A., Chatsworth; Mrs. R.N. Helme, Lancaster, England; Mrs. (Rev.) A.B. Fitzgerald, Hilton, N.J.; Mrs. Newton Brown, Toronto; and Mrs. H.E. Watson, Toronto. Lived at "Algonquin Lodge" Bradford. Interred in Bowmanville.

Beloved wife of the late Richard Younge, dear mother of Mabel (Mrs. Joseph Pettit), Adjala; William Langford of Bradford, and the late Wellington Langford; Charlotte (Mrs. George Ewing), of Red Deer, Alta.; Alma (Mrs. Oliver Pettit), of Tottenham; Arnold of Athlone; Evelyn (Mrs. Henry Rawn), of Palgrave; Adrienne (Mrs. Edgar Moffatt) and Dalton, both of Toronto. Resting at the Turner Funeral Home, Orangeville, where service was held on May 6. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
