Yesterday: Bradford Public School

This week "Yesterday" features a photograph of the pupils at Bradford Public School in 1912 submitted by Max Morris of Stayner. Mr. Morris recalls the principal of the school was Mr. Gordon. Five girls in the front row Mr. Morris can identify are (left to right) Marion Ritchie, a Moore girl, a Peterman girl, a Hirleyhey (her sister is standing directly behind her), and Miss Saint. Other names in the photograph include Davey, Woods, Wardman, McKinstry, Faris, Jermyn, Metcalf, Stoddaart, Spence, Bowser, and Parks.

Mr. Education

Tom Gardner, Bradford's Mr. Education, presents student council president Annette Grencer with the plaque that will name the high school's resource centre the "Tom Gardner Resource Centre."

Fred Collings Presented with Map

Fred "Collie" Collings probably knows more about the history of Bradford then anyone, and that's one reason why he was asked to help compile the historical map reproduced below. Mr. Collings, the town's first tax assessor, was presented with a framed copy of the map at a recent council meeting by Mayor Roy Gordon. The map was drawn by Boz Posilovic of the town planners Proctor and Redfern. Queen's Silver Jubille medal recipient Charles Evans remembered the contributions of Mr. Collings, and further mentioned the outstanding efforts of former clerk-treasurer Margaret Davey, and Mr. Evans. Mr. Collings is retired and lives in Bradford.
