"Kurt Soderberg and Pat Sincola, members of the Bradford Gay Sixties senior citizens club, get in a game of cards at the Simcoe County Senior Citizens Picnic, held at Springwater Provincial Park in Barrie last week. Program co-ordinator Joyce Moisey said the picnic was a great success with more than 1,200 members taking part."

"It's Bradford Salad Festival Time! Already, the rides for the kids have been set up on the parking lot in front of the community centre, and youngsters are lining up to get on them. The rides aren't going to be the only thing for the children, however. After Saturday's parade, led by Ontario Premier William Davis (which starts at Melbourne Crescent and moves east along Holland St. to Colborne St. where it will disperse), all of the posters that the elementary school children have made will be on display at the Curling Club, next door to the community centre. "The 1977 version of the Salad Festival will be held from July 10 to July 17 this year, publicity committee chairman George Allison announced this week. Planning had been underway for almost two months and several new events, as well as the popular regular events will be in the program. The midway, the beef barbeque, cabaret and salad feast will return this year. Mr. Allison stated that a joint meeting of the management committee and representatives of the various participating groups was held recently. Rick Wright, last year's salad feast chairman, has resigned stating that other commitments would make his participation difficult. Lyn Bowmaster has been chosen as chairman for this year's festival. Mrs. Bowmaster said the task will be made much easier as a result of the detailed records maintained over the last two years. She said she is looking forward to receiving the co-operation of the groups who participated in last year's events."

"The town of Bradford bulged at the seams last week as an estimated 20,000 people jammed into the community to make an unprecedented success of the annual Bradford Salad Festival. From last Wednesday night, through Sunday, every event scheduled by the Salad Festival Committee surpassed organizers' highest hopes. Visitors and residents alike consumed hundreds of pounds of fresh salad, sliced their way through a ton of beef, sipped on soft drinks and other refreshments, danced til the wee hours of the morning, and generally paid tribute to the greatest growing area in Ontario."

"Chamber of Commerce President George Allison explained the set up of this year's Bradford Salad Festival Committee to a gathering of more than 50 representatives from local, civic and service organizations during a dinner meeting at Toby's Restaurant last week. This year, the Chamber of Commerce is acting as an umbrella organization for the event. This year's Salad Festival will be held on the July 18, 19 weekend."

"A surprise party was held in Bond Head Community Hall on Saturday afternoon for Amy Young of Bond Head, formerly of Beeton, on the occasion of her eightieth birthday. Many of her family, neighbours, and friends from near and far, including members of two local bowling clubs, the Women's Institute of Bond Head, the Ladies Orange Lodge of Beeton and members of the local churches, gathered to spend a pleasant social interlude with her and partake of a buffet lunch. She served her guests a piece of delicious birthday cake with George McCague, our local Member of Parliament assisting her. An address was read by Margaret Westlake, a cousin. Shelley Bishop, a niece on behalf of the friends, presented her with an engraved wrist watch as a token of respect and appreciation, and a momentum of the party. George McCague presented her with an emblem pin on behalf of the Ontario government. Mrs. Young thanked her friends for coming and for her gift and expressed her appreciation to the convenors of the party. All departed with happy memories of a pleasant afternoon."

"The Fisher's Corners Women's Institute plans to buy rolls and serve them at the Bradford Salad Festival in July. At the May meeting, the group discussed a bus tour to Stoney Creek on June 16. Several plan to attend a short course September 16. Happy anniversary wishes were sung for Mr. and Mrs. Ben Steers and Mr. and Mrs. Sid Gapp, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wychopen was given a cup and saucer. Mrs. Donald Couture gave a report on the area convention at Waterloo. There will be no meeting in June."

"An old-fashioned hayride in Bond Head on Saturday night lured two wagon loads of people for a twilight tour and corn roast. The event capped day-long festivities organized by the Bond Head firefighters. Earlier in the day, the Bond Head this weekend includes minor sports playoffs."

"Timmy and Tammy were in Bradford last week to generate support for the Snowarama to be held February 13 from Varley's Marina. From the left are Bradford Mayor Roy Gordon, former mayor Joe Magani, Timmy (Kevin Collins of Orillia), Tammy (Patty Doak of Newmarket), Whipper Billy Watson, and Aurora Mayor George Timpson. The Snowarama is in its third year, and it's purpose is to raise money for crippled children in Ontario. Whipper Watson has been involved in the Ontario Crippled Children's Society for the past 28 years."
