"This week's photo, submitted by Jim Catania of Church Street, shows the Bradford Brass Band in about 1928, on the Speziali Farm on Bathurst Street, now known as Jamaica Farm. Mr. Catania says the band broke up in the mid-1930s. Back row: Emerson Faris, Jack Armstrong, Tom Speziali, George Manton, John Speziali, Wilfred Faris, Jim Catania, and Bill Carlton. Front: Ossie Depew, Roy Delahaye, Ed Callendar, Tom Batchelor, Mr. Eadie, Mac Campbell, and unidentified member. Sitting in front of the group is Dominic Speziali, bandmaster. Description : Although known to have a heart ailment, Mr. James Armstrong was about town every day and his death was most unexpected. Last Wednesday morning he had been to the building he formerly owned, and where he continued to be interested in the alterations which have converted it into a bowling alley, and from there he went to visit with a friend at the B.A. station. While in the latter business place he suffered a heart seizure and was moved to his home where he passed away about noon. The deceased was born in Bradford 71 years ago, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Armstrong. He attended Bradford schools and in early life cut and sold marsh hay, long before the idea of draining the Holland Marsh was conceived. Later he was in the garage and motor sales business, retiring from active business life a number of years ago after suffering a broken back in a fall at his barns. In February, 1914, James Armstrong and Jane Saint, both of Bradford, were married in Toronto. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. William Watson (Shirley) of Bradford, also two grandchildren, Robbie and Debbie Watson. He was predeceased by an infant son, Gordon, and a daughter, Jean, who died when a child, also by a sister, Mrs. Metcalfe (Sarah) and a brother, Jack. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home where services were taken by his rector, Rev. W. S. Johnson, of Trinity Anglican Church. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.The pallbearers were Richard Saint, Jack Church, Jim Church, Ken. Saint, Mel. Saint and Roy Saint, all of Bradford.

[IN MEMORY] Armstrong, Joan - At York County Hospital, Newmarket on Monday, April 8, 1991. Joan Vaughan of Bradford, loving wife of Jack, Beloved mother of Fred and his wife Sandy of Cumberland, Ontario and Tim and his wife Terry of Stittsville, Ontario. Beloved grandmother of Alyssa and Mark. Also survived by her sister Lois Sage of Dorset and Fred Vaughan of Innisfil. Rested at Lathangue and Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 39 Simcoe St., Bradford. Funeral service was held at St. John's Anglican Church, 6th Line, Tecumseth on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Interment St. John's Cemetery, Tecumseth. In memoriam donations to the Canadian Cancer Society of York County Hospital Foundation, Newmarket would be appreciated.
