64 Simcoe Road

The house located at 64 Simcoe Road was built on what was originally a vacant lot to the west of the Aiken’s property. The lot was sold to Leonard Saint by the McDonald sisters in 1946. Len built a frame, stucco house on the property in the winter of 1946-47. That was the year of a huge snow storm. The structure had a cement foundation, a cellar, and a water heater. A garage was built later on the laneway. Nellie (Saint) James once lived here. Her husband Ernest began a liquor store with his brother and son Ronnie. Nellie remained here with Ronnie after Len died. Ronnie sold the house when Nellie died. (1, 2)

Description : Died at Grace Hospital, Toronto. Loving son of Mrs. Emma James and the late Earle James. Also survived by son Ronald and brothers Elwood, Clarence, Ralston, Gordon, Douglas and sister Doreen and late Kenneth. Service was held at St. James Chapel January 14 at 1:30 p.m. Cremation.

Description : At York County Hospital, Newmarket, aged 82 years. Born in Fennell's Corners, attending Cherry Creek school. Farmer in the township, then travelled to Saskatchewan to farm there. Retired to Bradford more than twenty years previous to care for his invalid sister, Mrs. Hand, who died seven months ago. Recently he contracted pneumonia, for which he was hospitalized. Son of the late Thomas and Maria Sawyer. Survived by brother Robert Sawyer of Lefroy. Predeceased by ten brothers and sisters. Also survived by niece Marion Webb of Cookstown and nephews Arthur Hand of Hillsdale and Orville Hand of Bradford. Rested at home in Bradford. Service at Bradford United Church. Pallbearers were Girvan Sawyer, Lloyd Kneeshaw, George Stoddart, Ernest James, Roy Collings and Gordon Church. Interment in St. Paul's Cemetery, Coulson's Hill.
