Description : The sympathy of the people of this district will be extended to one of our new families which has suffered the loss of father and husband in the death of John Veer in Toronto General Hospital on Sunday.The Veer family came from their native Holland in April to the Holland Marsh village of Springdale where Mr. Veer was in the employ of Mr. Harry Verkaik. About a month ago Mr. Veer entered the hospital.Surviving are his wife and nine of a family.Fortunately, while in a strange land, the bereaved family is not among strangers, as the largely attended funeral yesterday afternoon gave evidence. The service was held in Springdale Christian Reformed Church with services conducted by Rev. R. Wildschut, minister of the church. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford.

Description : The passing of Mrs. Miller at Creemore on Sunday, September 20, removed a lady who for more than twenty years was an esteemed resident of Bradford. It was almost seven years before her death that Mrs. Miller suffered a stroke which left her partially invalided, but she continued to enjoy life and maintained an interest in her friends, among whom she attended social functions, although confined to a wheel chair. Shortly before her death she was again stricken with a stroke and from this seizure she failed to rally. She was in her 82nd year.Born Lavina May Gallaway, daughter of the late Joseph and Eliza Williams Gallaway, in Nottawasaga Township, near Creemore, she married the late Thomas Miller at Creemore in 1899. They had one daughter, (Leone) Mrs. Fred C. Cook of Bradford.In 1927 Mrs. Miller joined her daughter, who had been employed here for several years in Bradford. She resided here until her health compelled her to give up her home. During the past several years she had been in the care of a nurse in Creemore where she knew many of the residents and where her two sisters, Mrs. Albert Adams and Mrs. Fred Steele, reside. As well as her daughter, Mrs. Cook, and her two sisters, Mrs. Miller is survived by a brother, Mr. Everette Gallaway, Vancouver, B.C.Mrs. Miller was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Bradford, and was active in the women's organizations of that church so long as her health permitted.The funeral was from the T. Kilkenny & Son Funeral Home to Trinity Church, Bradford, on Wednesday, September 23, with services conducted by the rector, Rev. W. J. Johnson, assisted by two former rectors during the time of Mrs. Miller's residence here, Rev. T. J. Dew of Mimico and Rev. H. G. Blake of Toronto. Interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery, Coulson's Hill.The pallbearers were Messrs. Jack Mitchell, Mono Mills; Ernie Roberts, Ted Steele, Alfred Millsap, all of Creemore; Elwood Agar, Stayner; and Jack Gardner, Bradford.

Description : Seriously ill only about one hour, death came suddenly to Mr. Thomas Francis Gibbons following a heart seizure, on Thursday, October 8. About five and a half years ago Mr. Gibbons suffered a stroke but he rallied well from that and although unable to do strenuous work he was about as usual until the day of his death. The last rites of the church were administered before his death.Born on the farm on which he died, in 1884, Mr. Gibbons was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret Hefferman Gibbons. He had lived his entire life in the township where he was everyone's friend. In October, 1917, he married Alice Windross of Newton Robinson in St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Newmarket, and together Mr. and Mrs. Gibbons made their farm one of the attractive spots in the township.The deceased was a devout member of the Holy Martyrs' Catholic Church, Bradford, and of the Holy Name Society.Of a cheerful, happpy disposition he retained these traits until the last. His sense of humour never failed despite some physical disability.Mr. Gibbons is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mary and Florence, both at home, and one brother, John, of Orillia. One sister, Mrs. Anne O'Connell, and one brother, Charles, predeceased him.The funeral was held from his late residence Monday morning, October 12, with interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery. Rev. F. R. McGinn of Holy Martyrs' Church had charge of the services.The pallbearers were Messrs. Charles O'Connell, Leonard Gibbons, James Lemmon, Harold Cronan, Matthew Kneeshaw and Wm. Jelly. The flower bearers were William Moriarty, Leo Harrison, James Rivett, Carl McKenney, Leighton Giffen and William Pratt.Among those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Lemmon, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Pratt, Mr. and Mrs. Ed McLaughlen, Miss Connie Moriaty, Miss Laura Baynes, and Mr. Ambrose Rivett, all of Barrie; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Walker, Victoria Harbour; Mr. and Mrs. C. Hodgins and Ken, Keswick; Ambrose Foran, Mrs. Margaret Ethier, Matt O'Connell, Mrs. M. F. Doyle, Miss Theresa Callaghan and Misses Pearl and Ruby Metcalfe, all of Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. Carl McKenney, Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hodgins of Leaside; Mr. and Mrs. Lou Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Nolan of Lindsay; Miss Minnie Young, Niagara Falls; Mr. Chas. O'Connell, Mr. Leo O'Connell, Misses Peg and Eileen O'Connell and Miss Velma Hewitt of Atherley; and Miss Irene Moriarty of Trenton.

Description : Mr. David Camp Horner passed away at Stevenson Memorial Hospital, Alliston, on Wednesday, November 4, following a short period in hospital. The immediate cause of his death was an infection in his foot, but he had been in failing health for a number of years.Born at Primrose, Dufferin County, the late Mr. Horner spent his earlier years in that area, coming to West Gwillimbury in 1911.The late Mr. Horner was twice married. His first wife was Ella Shaw, whom he married in King Township in 1895. She died in 1913 and in 1915 he married Bertha McCulloch, at Mono Mills, who predeceased him in 1929.Surviving are three daughters and one son, namely, Miss Kathleen and Allen at home, Mrs. Clarence Fisher (Gladys) of Stayner and Mrs. Dalton Draper (Olive) of Toronto. Another daughter, by his first marriage, Mrs. L. Schroeder (Vera) predeceased him in April of this year.The late Mr. Horner was a farmer all of his life. His chief interest apart from his farm was his church, Newton Robinson United, of which he was an elder and where he had long been a Sunday School teacher.His funeral was held from his church on Friday, November 6, with his minister, Rev. J. C. Kellogg, conducting the services. Interment was in Newton Robinson Cemetery.The pallbearers were Messrs. Walter Andrews, Grenville Halbert, Dee Chantler, Harold McCulloch, Bert Horner and Miller Waudby.

Description : Albert Scanlon of Londesboro, died in Clinton Hospital on November 5, 1953, in his 82nd year. Mr. Scanlon was born in West Gwillimbury Township. Before going to Londesboro in 1947, he had farmed near Erin for twenty years. His wife, the former Isabella Fennell, died in 1949.Surviving are two sons, James and Charles of Londesboro; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas Airdrie (Isabella) of Londesboro, and Mrs. Wm. H. Green (Florence) of Hamilton R.R. 3.The funeral service was held from the family residence, Londesboro, on November 7, with interment in Blyth Union Cemetery.
