Description : One of the district's most interesting and brilliant daughters, Miss Vivian Bowles, passed away suddenly at Toronto General Hospital on Wednesday last, February 10. Miss Bowles had never fully recovered from a virus condition which developed at the time of her last visit to Mexico about three years ago.A few days before her death on the advice of her doctor she went to the hospital for rest and care but apparently her condition was not regarded with particular alarm and it was therefore a great shock to the members of the family when she passed away as the result of a heart attack.Miss Bowles was the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George F. Bowles of Bradford. She was born on concession 9, West Gwillimbury, and graduated from Bradford High School before attending Toronto Normal School. She returned to teach in her home school at Mount Pleasant for one year, before completing her Upper School subjects at Barrie Collegiate and becoming a student at Toronto University. She was a member of Stratford Collegiate staff for seven years before a trip to England for a time. During war years she was in Ottawa in charge of a large staff, and from there she went to Montreal where she worked as a chartered accountant. Returning to Toronto she lectured at the University and, specializing in the Spanish language, began her visits to Mexico where she spent three summers and on the last trip remained for over a year. She was studying for her Ph. D. degree when ill health prevented the accomplishment of this ambition.Miss Bowles is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George F. Bowles; three brothers and two sisters, namely, William of Bradford; Mrs. Matt Meher (Jennie) of Bradford; Russell of Sudbury; Mrs. Leigh Hartman (Laura) of Toronto, and Reginald of Oro Station. The funeral was held at the Cook Funeral Home, Toronto, on Friday afternoon. The pallbearers were cousins and nephews of the deceased, namely, Grenville Hughes, Lloyd Hughes, Charles Nesbitt, Charles Gibson, Keith Bowles and Peter Meher.
