Hockey Award Winners

Bradford and District Minor Hockey Association held its season-ending awards night for house league and all-star clubs Monday. Individual novice and atom most valuable player awards were given to (front row from the left) novice house league goalie Grant Campbell, novice forward Steven Arrigo, and novice all-star Danny Zielke. Back row (left to right) winners are atom house league forward Scott Brethet, atom defenceman Jim Whitton, atom goalie Bruce Robson, and atom all-star Jon Harris. Missing was novice defenceman Wade Harrison.

At a Brownie meeting held Monday evening, four Brownie's few up to Guides. At the meeting, two of the troop's leaders retired and three knitted afgans were presented to the Canadian Cancer Society. Front row left, Mrs. Betty House accepted the afgans for the cancer society. Presenting the afgans were, Annette Cummings, Donnalee Lloyd, Ellen Masin, and Ellinor Schlarb. Back row left, retiring badge secretary Margaret Chantler, beside her is retiring troop leader Carol Simone, new leader Elizabeth Schlarb, Patti Bray and Peggy Robertson.

Bradford area residents, Murray and Ruby Faris are justifiably proud of their home and even more so, since it won them a prize at this year's International Plowing Match. The home was judged as best century farmhouse, in the farm homestead improvement competition. Mrs. Faris noted it was interesting that all the winners in the competition were pork producers.

Although Dave's one of the smallest players on the Bradford Blues team, that doesn't stop him from being one of the club's more aggressive players. Dave's in his second year on the Blues, wears number 14 and is 18 years old. He plays centre.

Toronto General Nurses Recieve Their Diplomas

Toronto General hospital held its graduation ceremonies in Convocation hall last night. Happy to receive that coveted diploma are Jo-Anne Carter, Ottawa, left, Eleanor Boyd and Diane Finlayson, Right. Moffatt A. Woodside, dean, faculty of arts, University of Toronto, addressed the graduation class.

A deonair Ben Steers (second from left) was best man, while Eva Wright (extreme left) resplendent in tuxedo was an usher.

17th Child

York County Hospital established a record Monday when a Bradford area woman Mrs. Rosella Bell gave birth to her 17th child - a 10lb., one ounce girl. Mrs. Bell has had more children than any other mother at the hospital - and it's her last, she says. Her husband Roy works at Greenacres Home for the Aged. The couple already has 11 girls and five boys ranging in age from three years to 21.

He Shook A Lot Of Happy Hands

Mathew Kneeshaw, the Simcoe County Board of Education Trustee, was one of the key people in the 112th graduation exercises at Bradford District High School. He presented prizes and diplomas to the graduating students, two of whom are Martha Verhaaff and Nancy Jean Burton. Martha was the junior valedictorian, and Nancy Jean gave the address for the senior class.
