Allan, well known Innisfil townshipp resident, passed away on November 20, after suffering a severe coronary attack about ten days previously.Mr. Allan was the oldest living Past Master of Minerva Lodge, No. 304, A.F. and A.M., Stroud.His wife, Florence Campbell, predeceased him in March 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Allan were both noted for their musical ability, Mrs. Allan being an accomplished singer and player. Mr. Allan was tenor in a male quartet for 40 years, composed of the late Wes Moore, Robert Duncan, Churchill, and Dwight Rogerson, Toronto.

Description : Following a long period of failing health resulting from a stroke suffered six months ago, Howard Allan passed away suddenly, January 24, 1965, at Toronto General Hospital. Services were conducted by the Rev. T. Page, January 27, in Churchill United Church.Born January 13, 1883, son of Scottish parents, John Allan and Agnes Barclay, whose genealogy is compiled in a book edited during the centennial year of Innisfil Township, Simcoe County, he was the last survivor of a family of eight, namely: F. B. Allan, M.A., F.R.C.S., Professor of Chemistry and Dean of Arts in the University of Toronto; Gavin C. Allan, J.P., past reeve and clerk-treasurer of Innisfil Township, appointed Justice of the Peace, 1936; Walter Allan, past president, Centre Simcoe Liberal Association; Jack Allan, who had been a very successful Saskatchewan farmer, Addie Allan, Mrs. Samuel Todd of Churchill; and Roy and Margaret, who died at an early age.Mr. Allan married Edna Sturgeon, Cherry Creek school teacher and organist in the Churchill United Church, and resided in the family homestead, his birthplace,

Then he took a position in the library of the Ontario Government Library at the Parliament Buildings, Queen's Park, where he remained until his retirement. During this time he retained a close interest in the activities of the Churchill community.He spent 67 years in active church work, having taught the adult Bible class for 26 years, and was Clerk of the Session for 38 years and sang in the choir.Having been trustee of Cherry Creek School, he never missed a Christmas concert. His father's family, his family and some of his grandchildren had started their education there.Mr. Allan was elected president of Centre Simcoe Liberal Association for the sixth term in 1936. He was president of the Churchill Softball Team in 1930, the year they won the championship. He was an active member of the High Park Curling Club, Toronto, and Churchill Curling Club, having assisted financially in the building of the new Curling Rink, and donating the John Allan Trophy" in memory of his father also an excellent curler.The family Ronald Allan Churchill Grace (Mrs. Wm. Constable) Toronto Louise (Mrs. Barry Tromblay) Downsview and grandchildren Brenda Pamela Johna Ralph Lynda Lou Allan and Jane will miss him.The community has lost a valued servant the family a cherished adviser and friend and the seven grandchildren an ardent admirer and example of a steadfast life richly endowed.The floral tributes portrayed the esteem in which he was held by community relatives and friends.The honourary pallbearers were: Dwight Rogerson Wm. Boake Reuben Lucas Wilfred Stewart Robert Sinclair and Robert Campbell.The pallbearers were: Russell Stewart Allan Todd Bert Bonney Cyril Spence Wm. Kelly and Ernest Kneeshaw.Temporary entombment was in Sixth Line Cemetery Vault for burial in the family plot.(Contributed)"
