Description : The death occurred at York County Hospital, Newmarket, on Wednesday, May 3, 1967, of Lieuwe Boonstra, following a short illness.Mr. Boonstra was born at Hallam, Friesland, The Netherlands, 62 years ago, and was married there in 1929 to Tietje Mozes, coming to this country the same year. Mr. and Mrs. Boonstra first settled at Burlington, coming to the Holland Marsh in 1934, when the first Hollanders settled there. For years he gardened on the marsh, later moving to the corner at Middleton, where he purchased the school building, at the time of the conversion of the schools of the township into a school area, and made it into a home. Retired from marsh gardening, he operated the barber shop in the building formerly the R. Worfolk shop, and was thus employed until his last sickness.Mr. Boonstra is survived by his wife and a family of three sons and three daughters, Bert of R.R. 4 Bradford, James of R.R. 1 Bradford, Henry of R.R. 2 Newmarket, Marie and Anne of R.R. 1 Bradford, and Lydia (Mrs. Guildemeester) of R.R. 2 Newmarket, a brother Henry in Newmarket, a sister, Mrs. Yantje De Boer in Wyoming, Mich., as well as two brothers and four sisters in The Netherlands, and 13 grandchildren. Mr. Boonstra was a director of the Holland Marsh and Bradford Credit Union.A member of the Holland Marsh Christian Reformed Church, the funeral was held from that church on Saturday, May 6, with his minister, Rev. J. De Pater conducting the services. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford.The pallbearers were Messrs. H. Boonstra, B. Boonstra, D. Boonstra, J. Guildemeester, P. De Boer and G. Mozes.
