Description : Suffering a stroke about a week before, Mrs. William Curry passed away in Newmarket hospital on Saturday, February 16. Mrs. Curry had been around as usual, cheerful and happy, until suffering the seizure from which she failed to rally. A native of England, born at Marshworth, Buckinghamshire, Mrs. Curry came to Canada and West Gwillimbury with her parents at the age of four years. She spent her childhood in the township where she attended Pinkerton school. Later the family moved to Bradford where she met and married William Curry and where she had since made her home.A devoted wife and mother, extremely interested in her family, by whom she was most affectionately regarded, Mrs. Curry still found time for interests outside her home, at faithful member and worker in Bradford Presbyterian Church and its women's organizations, she was Strangers' Secretary in the W.M.S. for many years. She was an admirable choice for this office an many residents can recall the warm welcome she gave them when they were strangers here. This Society honoured her with a life membership, presented by the members. For many years she was a faithful and valued member of the church choir and also a teacher in the Sunday School. Mrs. Curry was a charter member of Bradford Women's Institute and for many years was active in that organization. Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Jessie (Mrs. A.B. Gardiner) of Meaford; one son, Harvey of Bradford; a brother, James Archer of Bradford; and tow sisters, Mrs. M. Lowry (Minnie) of Stroud and Mrs. Thomas Timmons (Polly) of Carnduff, Sask. A daughter, Gladys, died in infancy. The funeral was held from her home yesterday afternoon with her pastor, Rev. E.C. McLarnon, conducting the services. Interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery, Coulson's Hill.The pallbearers were family friends and neighbours: C.T.S. Evans, Geo. Stoddart, R. Denny, Art Fell, James McClocklin (Toronto) and Russell Lowry (Stroud).

Description : After a lengthy and painful illness, James Loblaw (Jimmie) Hipwell, 10 years old, and elder son of Mr. C. (Ted) and Dorothy Hipwell, died February 11 at his parents' home, Bond Head. Jimmy was a very alert and talented youngster, a pupil at the Bond Head school, and his early passing is most sad and distressing. The sympathy of the whole community goes out to his sorrowing parents and little brother, Reggie. That sympathy was shown by the large attendance at the funeral service held at Emmanuel United Church, Bond Head, at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon last, and by the great number of floral tributes received at his home. The service was in charge of Rev. E.A. McIlwain, assisted by Rev. C.R.P. Hearn. A solo was rendered by Jimmy Thompson, Its's Good-Night Here but Good-Morning Up There." Pallbearers were Walter Reynolds Wallace Reynolds Verle Stewart Jimmy Thompson Billy Breedon and Alan McLean. Description : A lifelong resident of West Gwillimbury and Bradford, with the exception of the past several months which were spent in a Toronto nursing home, Mrs. Richard Thorpe passed away last Thursday, March 6. A fall at her home in Bradford about seventeen months ago, when she broke her leg, left her an invalid and recently she had suffered several slight strokes. Born on
Concession 11, West Gwillimbury, in March 1865, Annie Kellaway Kneeshaw resided in the township until moving to Bradford over twenty years ago. In 1886, she married Richard Mark Thorpe, also of West Gwillimbury. During her earlier life she attended Ebenezer church, but later, when Mr. and Mrs. Thorpe moved to Concession 9, to the now Sawdon farm, they attended the Mount Pleasant church until it closed, and then they came to Bradford Methodist, later United. Over twenty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Thorpe retired from farming and took up residence in Bradford, where they endeared themselves to neighbours and townspeople by their kindly friendliness. They loved flowers and gardening and their lawn and flower beds were always beautifully tended.Mr. Thorpe died in August 1948, and while Mrs. Thorpe kept her home her following his death, she spent the first winter in Toronto, then returned to reside for over a year before her accident. A devout churchwoman, Mrs. Thorpe was active in her church until failing health prevented. In the W.M.S. she was a life member, an honour conferred upon her by the Society. Surviving are two sons, Emerson of Woodville, and Roy of Toronto; two sisters, Miss Elizabeth Kneeshaw of Toronto and Mrs. Robt. Sawyer (Rhoda) of Carnduff, Sask.; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The funeral was held from the United Church on Saturday afternoon, with services conducted by her minister, Rev. F.G. MacTavish. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The pallbearers were three grandsons, Elmer Thorpe and Kenneth Thorpe of Toronto, and Orin Thorpe of Woodville; two grandsons-in-law, Robert Riddell of King and Lorne Clement of Toronto; and a grand-nephew and neighbour, Gordon Bateman of Bradford.

Description : Jeanne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Matthews, to Michael Havinga, son of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Havinga, all of the Holland Marsh. The wedding took place at the Christian Reformed Church, Ansnorveld. Rev. S. G. Brondsema of Toronto officiated. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Henrietta Matthews, as maid of honour, and by her cousins, Miss Rena Van Zuiden and Miss Jean Hagan as bridesmaids. Little nieces of the groom, Marianne and Thelma Miedema, were the flower girls. Mr. Ralph Havinga of Windsor was his brother's groomsman and the ushers were Messrs. Sidney Van Dyke and Fred Havinga. The bride's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Flack, were host and hostess to the guests for afternoon tea. Mr. George Horlings, the bride's uncle, was master of ceremonies at the reception in the Community Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Havinga will reside in Toronto. Before her marriage several showers "of gifts were held in honour of the bride who has been a member of the office staff at Holland River Gardens Co. Limited. "
