Description : Following a lengthy illness, John Gordon Brethet passed away in Stevenson Memorial Hospital, Alliston, on Saturday, May 14, 1966.Gordon was the youngest son of John Brethet and Eleanor Margaret Hayes and was born on
Lot 19, Con. 5, Tecumseth Township, on May 1, 1901, where he lived all his life. Very early in life he took an active part in the farm and at eight years of age started showing at the fall fairs and showed stock every year until 1964. He also showed at the Exhibition and Royal Winter Fairs and was a past president of Beeton Fair Board. He was a member of Bond Head Presbyterian Church, later United Church, where he was an elder and a trustee, also treasurer of the Cemetery Board for a number of years, and was chairman at the time of his death. He was superintendent of the Sunday School for eight years. He took a keen interest in community affairs, being a member of Tecumseth Planning Board, belonged to Junior Farmer groups and 4-H Clubs, and coached many boys. He was a member of the Orange Lodge and was a Past District Master.In 1929 he married Marion Cerswell, who passed away in 1957. He leaves to mourn his passing two sons, William on the home place, and Donald of Campbellville, and two grandchildren, Glenn and Karen; also survived by one brother, Cecil of Thornton, and three sisters, Laura (Mrs. A. McCutcheon) of Schomberg, Alice (Mrs. A. Green) of Bond Head and Hazel (Mrs. W. Hayes) of Alliston.The funeral was held from the Lewis Funeral Home in Bradford, with service in Bond Head United Church on Tuesday, May 17, conducted by Rev. H. W. Dahlin, Rev. W. Burton and Rev. Lee.Pallbearers were Wm. Watt, Wm. Brooks, Irwin Watson, Arnold Rogers, Harry Cross and Borden Best.Flower bearers were Walter Reynolds, Wallace Reynolds, Wm. Murray, Frank Mellow, Ted Houghton, Mel Taylor, Gordon Bradley and Wm. Westlake.

Description : A sudden seizure , which occured while she was in the Beeton Beauty Salon, on Monday, July 22, resulted in the death of Mrs. Marion Jane Cerswell Brethet, wife of Gordon Brethet, that evening in Newmarket Hospital.Mrs. Brethet was a daughter of the late James C. and Mrs. Cerswell, and was born on the 7th Line of Tecumseth, Con. 16, on June 4th, 1904. She married Gordon Brethet, June 19, 1928, and came as a bride to the farm home on the 6th Line of Tecumseth, where she resided until her death.Mrs. Brethet was active in community and church affairs in the Bond Head district, where she will be greatly missed.Mrs. Brethet is survived by her husband; two sons, William and Donald; two sisters, Miss Margaret Cerswell, a nurse, and Ruth, Mrs. Fowler of Aurora; one brother, Charles, on the home farm, and her mother, Mrs. Cerswell, who resides in Toronto.The funeral was from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home, Bradford, to Emmanuel United Church, Bond Head, where the service was conducted by Rev. Burton, former pastor of the Bond Head congregation, assisted by the present minister, Rev. Love. Interment was in Bond Head United Cemetery.The pallbearers were Messers. William Watt, William Brooks, William Andrews, Borden Best, Irwin Watson and Arnold Rodgers.

The ambulance from Bradford was called and she was moved to York County Hospital where she passed away early in the evening.Mrs. Brethet, who was the former Marion Cerswell, was well known and had many friends, especially in the Bond Head area, all of whom mourn her untimely passing.The funeral will be held from the Bond Head United Church on Thursday.
