"The Schomberg River dredge was finally launched last Tuesday after an abortive effort the day before. The ponderous machine, built by Louis Devald, slid slowly into the water near Wanda Street, and to the relief of everybody it not only floated, but operated like a charm. Celebrating the event with a bit of the bubbly at right are Art Janse (left) Louis Devald, and John Rupke. The dredge has its work cut out, clearing tons of silt from the Schomberg River."

"This week's photo was submitted by Mrs. Dorothy Marks who provided most of the photographic material for the Bradford centennial book now available at the town hall. The building above was the office for Thompson Smith's mill in Amsterdam, a little community of lumber mills just south of Bradford. In the early 19th century, lumber mills flourished south of the river, employing about 150 men. In this photo from the left are Robert Collings, George Taylor, Miss Scott, Mrs. W. Description : The familiar old Beeton landmark, the Queen's Hotel, finally succumbed to the wrecker's hammer last Saturday. Builder Bert Fava and his crew had the venerable old structure down in less than a day as a crowd of interested Beeton residents looked on. The hotel was built in the early 1800s and served several functions over the years. A plan to turn the old building into an apartment complex never got past first base. No definite plan has been approved for the site yet, but Fava may build a new town hall with municipal offices, fire hall, and library. The beginning of the end for the Queen's Hotel came in 1974 when the Simcoe County Board of Health condemned it.
