Highway 11 tangled due to blizzard

Tangle of cars, buses and snowplow on Highway No. 11 north of Bradford was being cleared to remove bottleneck in Ontario's main north-south highway yesterday when Globe and Mail plane slid down for a close view, which is looking north. Sunday night some 500 motorists were stranded in this region.

Sadie Hounsome Turns 93

Sadie Hounsome of Bradford celebrated her 93rd birthday Monday. Mrs. Hounsome was born in 1884 in Wisconsin and yesterday she was treated to a visit from her 90-year-old brother who still lives in Wisconsin. Presenting Mrs. Hounsome with the cake were family members, Elsa Reynolds, Bertha and Harry Reynolds, Herb and Edna Hounsome, Irva, and Mary Hounsome. This photo appeared in the Bradford Witness but was found in the Bradford Womens Institute Scrapbooks.

Bradford School

This photograph features the pupils at Bradford Public School in 1912. It was submitted to the Bradford Witness for it's "Yesterday" feature by Max Morris of Stayner. Mr. Morris recalls the principal of the school was Mr. Gordon. Five girls in the front row Mr. Morris could identify are (left-to-right) Marion Ritchie, a Moore girl, a Peterman girl, a Hirleyhey (her sister is standing directly behind her), and Miss Saint. Other names in the photograph include Davey, Woods, Wardman, McKinstry, Faris, Jerymyn, Metcalf, Stoddart, Spence, Bowser and Parks.

Bradford's Walter King was 31 years old when this photo was taken in 1914. Mr. King is shown with his new bride Stella Kneeshaw. The wedding took place two days before on the Kneeshaw farm on the 6th line of West Gwillimbury and the couple moved to Mr. King's farm down the road where they lived until 1943. Mr. King, now 95, lives in retirement on John Street in Bradford. This week's photo was submitted by Mrs. Earl Bowles. The Witness welcomes photos of interest.
