Fait partie de Local History Collection
November 5, 1986
Death
Woman killed in accident on Highway 11. One woman is dead and three others are in hospital after a Saturday morning accident at Highway 11 and Highway 88. Nancy Theodoru of Toronto was a passenger in the car driven by her husband George. She was killed when the car collided with a pick up truck, Bradford OPP report. The truck was driven by Frank Anzil, of Klienburg [sic]. His wife Tina was a passenger. The three people are in serious condition in hospital. Bradford Fire department responded to the emergency call and used the "jaws of life" to release Mr. Theodoru from behind the steering wheel. It was the first time the equipment has been used, other than in practises [sic], since the money to purchase it was donated by the Lions and the Rotary Clubs about a year ago. Mr. Anzil used to own what was known as the Anzil plaza in Bradford, on the north side of Holland Street West. Charges are pending in the incident.

"The Georgian Bay Steam Show featured more than steam tractors like the one driven by the young man in photo below. A miniature steam locomotive (above) was a big hit with children who were among more than 15,000 people at the three-day event. The working model built by Wes White is highly detailed and it runs on coal. Above at right, an eight-cylinder 1947 Buick was one of the vintage automobiles on display. On display were cars ranging from the early 1900s to 1965."

Winter returns, halts all activity

"When Southern Ontario residents put away all their snowmobiling equipment and winter clothes, they thought the long, cold winter had ended, but Old Man Winter decided he still had some say in the matter. Over a foot of snow covered southern Simcoe County and winds gusting up to 50 miles an hour created 15-foot drifts that blocked traffic, closed businesses, schools, and stranded travellers. The Ontario Provincial Police detachment had their hands full like everybody else. The detachment has waded through only a handful of accident reports and so far they report four property damage collisions involving six vehicles on Highway 400 between Highways 88 and 89. Five property damage collisions involving six vehicles south of Highway 88 were also looked into. There are still numerous accidents that have yet to be fully investigated."
