World War I Medals

Two World War I medals. The medal on the left is a British War Medal, awarded to all who saw action from 1914-1918 in World War I and all who served in Russia from 1919-1920. The one on the right was made by Andrew Neilly, a jeweller in Bradford, and was given to soldiers returning from World War I by the community of Bond Head.

Soldiers in Bradford

Soldiers in front of Queen's Hotel on Holland Street, taking a break on their long march to Fort York for their winter dwelling and training. The soldiers were stationed at Camp Borden, but lack of shelter and proper living conditions forced nearly 5000 troops to march from Barrie to Toronto in October 1917.
