Electric Meter Register Beeton - Inside View

An Electric Meter Register book provided by the Department. It provides an example of the way such information was tracked at the time and how it would have been tracked in the Bradford West Gwillimbury area.
According to an Electricity Inspection Service hand-out from the same time period as the book: "A Meter Register Book is supplied by the Department of Trade and Commerce to contractors for The purpose of assisting them in complying with the provisions of the Electricity Inspection Act, and the regulations established thereunder. The following requirement are necessary...The Electricity Inspection Act provides a penalty of fifty dollars for any neglect in respect of the above requirements."

Pumpkin Growing - Bradford Womens Institute

South Simcoe District of the Womens Institute sponsored a pumpkin growing contest amongst school children to encourage gardening activites. The Bradford Womens Institute participated and their display at the Beeton Fair in 1986 is pictured here.

EVANS, Brock MacDonald LLB, Q.C. - peacefully at Simcoe Manor, Beeton an [sic] Friday, August 26, 1994, Brock Evans of Bradford in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Martha Sommerville. Dear father of Ann and her husband Roy Gordon of Bradford, Chris and his wife Charleen of Calgary. Dear brother of Charles and his wife Louise and the late Sunny Peacock and predeceased by Graham, Fred, Max and Joseph Evans and Betty Jackson. Dear brother-in-law of Gordon and Glenn Sommerville, Margaret Flett and predeceased Norma Hunnisett. Dear grandfather of Matthew, Luke and Lori Gordon, Meaghan and Craig Evans. Friends called at the Lathangue & Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Street, Bradford for visitation. Service was held at Bradford United Church on Monday August 29, 1994 at 2 p.m. Interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford. Donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.

Dear father of Joan of Bond Head, Anne and her husband William White of Scarborough, Lynda and her husband Gary Renegar of North Carolina, and James and his wife Kelly of Bond Head. Dear brother of MArgared Cerswell of Toronto, Ruth Fowler of Aurora and predeceased by MarionBrethet. Dear grandfather of Damon and Kristen White, Ryan, Justin and Zachary Renegar, And Naomi, Michale, Leysa, and Andrea Cerswell. Dear friend of Jean Locke of Toronto. Friends called at the Lathangue & Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe St., Bradford. Funeral service was held at the Bond Head United Church on Friday, August 26, 1994 at 2 p.m. Interment Bond Head Cemetery.

Two new wheelchairs

"Simcoe Manor, Beeton has two spanking new wheelchairs for residents' use. Last Thursday Women's Auxiliary president, Mary Cannon of Gilford made the presentation of the chairs valued at $230. A picture of Jesus in contemporary art was also presented in memory of Mrs. Isabelle Hopkins, a long-time resident and auxiliary worker. The picture will hang in the chapel. Manor superintendent Ed Boynton accepted the gifts in a special ceremony before the auxiliary's monthly public euchre. Seen here are Mrs. Cannon; auxiliary treasurer, Willow Kneeshaw, Mr. Boynton and his wife, Maisie, convenor of the auxiliary tuck shop."
