"Donna Ramsay (centre), this year's Salad Festival Queen, receives congratulations from the 1976 queen, Annette Grencer, as fellow contestant Nancy Bergeron (right) applauds. Donna, 18, was elected at the Salad Festival dance Saturday night in the Bradford community centre. She is the daughter of Don and Mary Ramsay of Concession 9, West Gwillimbury, and she plans a career in hotel management. The festival runs from Sunday, June 10, to Sunday, July 17."
"It's Bradford Salad Festival Time! Already, the rides for the kids have been set up on the parking lot in front of the community centre, and youngsters are lining up to get on them. The rides aren't going to be the only thing for the children, however. After Saturday's parade, led by Ontario Premier William Davis (which starts at Melbourne Crescent and moves east along Holland St. to Colborne St. where it will disperse), all of the posters that the elementary school children have made will be on display at the Curling Club, next door to the community centre. The weekend is not only for the children; the adults are guaranteed a good time as well."
The Bradford Legion Branch 521 celebrated its 25th anniversary last Saturday night. About 75 people were on hand at the Legion building for the festivities. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of 25 year pins to original members of the branch who are still involved. Ten men received the 25 year pins. The pins were presented by Zone Commander Ralph Newell and master of ceremonies, Bert MacGregor of Aurora. Reeve Orville Hughes of West Gwillimbury and Reeve Art Turner of Bradford congratulated the Orville Hand Branch on its anniversary. The branch is named after Mr. Hand, one of the active early members.
"Mrs. Gwen Kilkenny has been chosen as Bradford's Citizen of the Year by the Bradford and District Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Kilkenny will be honored at a banquet and dance at the Community Centre this Saturday, April 5. She received the award for her work over a period of years particularly with the Canadian Cancer Society." Note: the banquet was delayed for a week (to April 12th) because of a massive snow storm on the original Saturday (April 5th).
