Photograph of the Thompson Fisher House with the previous Fred C. Cook Senior Elementary School/ Bradford High School in the background. The Thompson Fisher House was built in the 1880s. Thompson Fisher was an insurance agent in Barrie and Alliston, and live to the age of 91 in 1944.

The article accompanying this photograph gives a brief biography of Andrew Thompson and a photograph of their residence. Andrew Thompson ran Thompson's Hardware on the southwest corner of Holland Street and Simcoe Road. This store was formerly Driffill's Hardware where Thompson was a partner.

Thompson Smith was a Toronto man who participated in the incorporation the Rama Lumber Transport Co. and who opened up a lumber mill in Amsterdam (near Bradford). The exact date of opening is unknown, but it was sometime between 1858-1869. The mill was a steam mill and many of the logs cut were shipped along the Holland River. Smith's mill was eventually one of many in the area during the late nineteenth century.

The building above was the office for Thompson Smith's mill in Amsterdam, a little community of lumber mills just south of Bradford. In the early 19th century, lumber mills flourished south of the river, employing about 150 men. In this photo from the left are Robert Collings, George Taylor, Miss Scott, Mrs. W. McKinstry (Ida Collings), James Spence (seated), Jack Davey, James Scott, Sam Scott, Unidentified, Jack Busby, and Tommy Mulligan."

Andrew Thompson first started the hardware store in 1865. He was born in Innisfil township, and first started a hardware store with a Mr. Kendall. He then bought out his partner, and the Driffill's Hardware store on the corner, and proceeded to run his business. In addition to hardware items, he also carried silverware, stoves, furnaces, paints, and school supplies. When he died in 1905, Miss Thompson, a graduate of the Optical Institute of Canada, became store manager. She ran her business out of the shop as well. The Thompson's home was located at the corner of Moore and Frederick Streets.

Everyone is gathered around the side of the building for an auction.
