Description : Died peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, of R.R. 1, Gilford, in his 80th year. Beloved husband of Gladys (Bell) for 46 years. Dearly loved Dad of Julie and her husband Armenio Neto. Predeceased by his brothers Harold, Lewis and Francis. Missed by his nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours. John lived his entire life on the family farm in Gilford. He was a life long member of the Holy Martyrs of Japan Church in Bradford and a 45 year member of the Knights of Columbus Branch #4915. Friends called at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, Bradford for visitation. Funeral mass was held at Holy Martyrs of Japan Church, Bradford on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 11 a.m. Interment Holy Martyrs Cemetery, Bradford.

Description : Five years ago last December, Mr. Joseph Cronan of West Gwillimbury suffered a very bad fall at his farm in which he sustained such serious injury that he had since been an invalid. After long and painful months in hospital he was brought to his home, where during the years he received the kindly and sympathetic care of his wife and family. Last Wednesday morning his suffering ended in death. He was 62 years of age.Born at Deerhurst in the township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cronan, the late Mr. Cronan, after attending school at Steele's Corners, farmed all of his life in the Gilford district, where he was esteemed as a good and kindly neighbour, as a good husband and father, and as a most industrious farmer.In 1919 Mr. Cronan was married to the former Gertrude Gibbons, the marriage ceremony being performed in Bradford.The deceased is survived by his wife; four sons, Harold, Lewis and John, all of Gilford, and Francis of North Bay; two grandchildren, Mary Lou and Tommy; a brother, Charles, and a sister, Elizabeth, both of Queensville. His sister Alice predeceased him.Mr. Cronan was a member of Holy Martyrs' Church, Bradford, and of Holy Name Society.The very largely attended funeral was held from Holy Martyrs's Church, Bradford, on Saturday morning. Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. F. R. McGinn and interment was in the Roman Catholic Cemetery.The pallbearers were Frank Murphy, Lorne Barrett, Norbert Moriarty, Leonard Gibbons, James Lemmon and Joe Mooney. Flower bearers were nearby neighbours, Alf. Davis, Harold Porritt, Ernest Hughes and Tom Bell.
