Description : The death occurred at her home on the Holland Marsh on Sunday, February 5, of Mrs. William Valenteyn. Mrs. Valenteyn had not enjoyed good health for several years and her passing was not unexpected. She was in her 60th year.Born at Hilversum, Netherlands, Mrs. Valenteyn spent her younger years, was educated, and married in Holland. In 1927 Mr. and Mrs. Valenteyn came to Canada and resided at Kingston until 1934 when they came as one of the pioneer families to the then little Dutch village on the marsh. Those first years there were ones during which optimism for the future carried them through the hardships of pioneer life, and, like so many others, their optimism and industry were rewarded. Mr. and Mrs. Valenteyn have for many years been rated among the progressive leaders on the marsh.Mrs. Valenteyn, whose maiden name was Johanna Eek, was a quiet, kindly lady, interested in her home and her family. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, and her funeral, held on Thursday, February 9, was from Holy Martyrs' Church, Bradford.Mrs. Valenteyn is survived by her husband; one son, John, at home; and one daughter, Mrs. J. R. Ash (Marie) of Pugwash, N.S.; one brother, Wm. Eek, of Holland Marsh, and two sisters in Holland.Rev. F. R. McGinn conducted the funeral services and interment was in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bradford.The pallbearers were neighbours and relatives of the family, namely, N. Lenior, G. Valenteyn, H. Valenteyn, M. Valenteyn, A. Valenteyn, and J. J. Van Euyk.

Description : Rev. W. B. Bugden, who for two years was minister at Cookstown United Church, going from there to St. Paul's United Church, Orillia, in 1938, died in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Orillia, on Thursday, February 2, following several years of ill health.Born in Newfoundland 70 years ago, Rev. Mr. Bugden was ordained by the Newfoundland Conference of the Methodist Church in 1914, and in 1915 was married to Miss Isabella Snelgrove, who, with one son, Lieut.-Commander John Bugden RCN, survives him. He retired because of his health in 1950 from his charge in Orillia.

Description : Following several months of poor health caused by a heart condition, Norval C. Cave passed away at his home in Alliston on Thursday, February 16.Born 66 years ago in Tecumseth Township, the deceased attended school in Newton Robinson and spent most of his life in that district, first as a Tecumseth farmer and later conducting a butcher business in Cookstown.He was a member of Cookstown United Church, was an Orangeman and member of the Black Preceptory.About thirty years ago he married
Lottie Robson in Thompsonville and she, with one daughter, Mary (Mrs. Murray Pomeroy) of Ottawa, and a son, Orval, survive him. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Charles Johnston (Lily) of Tecumseth, and three brothers, Edward Cave of Bradford, and Lyman and Elwood Cave, both of Alliston.About five years ago Mr. and Mrs. Cave moved to Alliston there the funeral was held from the United Church on Monday with interment in Alliston Union Cemetery.The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Shelton of Alliston assisted by Rev. H. P. Maitland of Bradford Presbyterian Church.The pallbearers were Earl Rowe, Frank Houghton, Elwood Nicol, D. K. Harvey, Barry Jebb and Lorne Arnold.
