Description : The passing of Elizabeth Ruston, wife of the late George Mapes, at Cedar Glen Nursing Home, Keswick, on Tuesday, May 15, 1956, was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage following a similar seizure a week previously.Mrs. Mapes was born at Tottenham, Ontario, on June 11, 1876 and she was the last surviving member of her family. She was married on September 13, 1894, at Tottenham, and Mr. and Mrs. Mapes lived on the farm, now occupied by Davis Webb, at Bond Head, until 1919 when they retired and moved to Bradford.The deceased was a member of the United Church and in her more active years was a member of the W.A. and W.M.S. of that church. She was also a member of the Bradford Women's Institute and of the Bradford Knitting Club. She is survived by one son and four daughters, namely, Wilfred of Cannington, Ontario, Eva (Mrs. F. W. Stevenson) of Stoney Creek, Sadie (Mrs. Heath) of London, Hazel (Mrs. Theo. Patterson) of Caledon East, Ella (Mrs. Jack Gapp) of Bradford, also ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Another son, Herb. of Cookstown, predeceased her by three days.The funeral service was conducted by Rev. F. G. MacTavish her minister, assisted by Rev. Walter S. Johnson of Trinity Anglican Church, and was from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home, on May 18. Interment was in Mounts Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford.The pallbearers were Jack Gapp, Dr. G. L. Blackwell, Brock Evans, Fred Cook, Thos. Gardner, Jas. Church.As well as many friends from town and the surrounding district, the funeral was attended by friends from Toronto, Caledon East, Bolton, Mono Mills, Beeton, Orangeville, and Cooksville.
