Description : Despite his advanced years Mr. George Faris Bowles was about town every day and enjoyed remarkably good health until suffering a fall on the stairway in his home on Sunday July 8. He was badly shaken and bruised and when a few days later the effect of the shock upon his heart was evident he was moved from his home to Newmarket hospital where he passed away the following Monday.Mr. Bowles was born in West Gwillimbury, a son of Mr. James and Mrs. Jane Faris Bowles of

Concession 10, of the township. He attended school at the school which bears the family name, Bowles' school, S.S. No.8In January 1899, he married Minnie Nesbitt, the ceremony taking place in the St. Paul's Anglican Church, Coulson's Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Bowles farmed on

Lot 13, West Gwillimbury until retiring to Bradford twenty-two years ago, when their youngest son, Reginald, married and took over the farm.Mr. Bowles was a devout Anglican and during his years on the farm was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Coulson's Hill, where he served as a church warden for several terms and as a Sunday school teacher. After moving to Bradford, Mr. Bowles transferred his membership to Trinity Anglican Church, and here he also served as a warden. For years he was a school trustee for S.S. N. 9, West Gwillimbury (Mount Pleasant).Mr. and Mrs. Bowles celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1949.A quiet, friendly man, Mr. Bowles had many friends who will miss him around town, as well as his passing being a sad bereavement to his wife and family.Mr. Bowles is survived by his wife; two sons, namely William and Russell; and two daughters, Mrs. Matt Meher (Jennie) of Bradford, and Mrs. Leigh Hartman (Laura)of Ottawa. Another daughter, Miss Vivian predeceased him in February, 1954, and his son Reginald died in May of this year. He is also survived by his brother, Mr. Norman Bowles of Bradford, and two sisters, Mrs. Mel Law of West Gwillimbury and Mrs. Henry Martin of Frobisher, Saskatchewan.The funeral was held on Wednesday, July 18, from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home to St. Paul's Cemetery.Six grandsons acted as pallbearers, namely, Keith and Carl Bowles of Bradford, Donald Bowles of Toronto, Peter and Kenneth Meher, and Charles Gibson, the latter of Barrie.
