Description : A resident of West Gwillimbury for the past ten years, Edmund Kenneth Giffen passed away suddenly in Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, as the result of a coronary thrombosis, on Tuesday, February 22, 1955, at the age of 56 years. He had been troubled with a heart condition for about 15 years and had been taken to the hospital a week previous to his death.Born in Sunnidale Township, April 6, 1898, son of the late James and Mary Alice Giffen, he was well known in his early manhood as a saleman and later as a farmer. Previous to coming to West Gwillimbury he had lived in Orillia, Midland and Toronto. Owing to his heart condition, his hobby latterly was flowers and light gardening. He was a Presbyterian and attended St. John's Church, Coulson's Hill.The largely attended funeral was held from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home, Bradford, where the service was conducted by Rev. E. C. McLarnon, Toronto, formerly of Bradford. Interment was at Stayner.The pallbearers were Aubrey Giffen, Russell Neal, James Leinster, Everett Kneeshaw, Norbert Moriarty and William Edgerley.Relatives and friends were present from Brampton, Hamilton, Mount Forest, Toronto, Aldershot, Stayner, Barrie and Orillia.Flowers were numerous and beautiful with their message of sympathy, including Bradford Lions Club, Coulson's Hill W.M.S., Hawman Motors, Camp Borden R.C.E., Bradford Cooperative Storage, Mutual and United Benefit Insurance Company.Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Derek Jeffries (Shirley) of Toronto, two sons, Roger of Minesing and Leighton, Bradford; a sister, Mrs. W. E. Downey, Minesing; five brothers, Newman of Stayner, Harry of Edenvale, Elwood of Sunnidale, Gordon of Elmvale and Fraser of Hamilton.
