Description : A sufferer from a heart condition for some time, Mr. Thomas G. Fennell died suddenly at his home in Toronto following a heart attack on Thursday last.The Fennell family dates back for several generations in West Gwillimbury. Thomas Fennell was a son of the late Robert Fennell, whose father was known as Squire Joseph Fennell. The latter was the pioneer Fennell on the Comer Castle farm, now occupied by the fourth generation, John Fennell. Thomas Fennell's mother was Mary Jane Wood, daughter of the late Wm. Wood of County Caven, Ireland. Thomas Fennell was born on
Concession 1, Innisfil, but spent his youth in Bradford to where the family moved to the farm at the western end of town, now occupied by J. Wolfe. Later the family moved to the now L. Hartman farm, and it was to this farm that Thomas Fennell took his bride, the former Ethel Bowles, in October, 1904. Twelve years later Mr. and Mrs. Fennell moved to Toronto where they have since made their home.An Anglican in religion, Mr. Fennell was a member of St. Paul's Church, Coulson's Hill, before going to Toronto. Latterly his church was the Church of the Messiah in the city.Mr. Fennell is survived by his wife and two sons, Douglas of Calgary, Alta., and Bertram of Toronto. The last surviving member of his family, Mr. Fennell was predeceased by three sisters and three brothers, namely, Mrs. Lorne Hartman (Susan), Mrs. T. A. Manning (Jennie), Mrs. Beverley Jeffs (Lizzie), William, Albert and Robert Fennell.The funeral was held from Toronto on Saturday with interment in St. Paul's Cemetery, Coulson's Hill. His rector, Rev. Mr. Sproule of the Church of the Messiah, had charge of the services.The pallbearers were Percy Selby, Norman Bowles, Arthur Murray (Toronto), and three nephews, Charles Nesbitt, Fred Nesbitt and Beverley Hartman.

Description : A resident of this district for about 75 years before she moved to the home of her son at Pine Grove some thirteen years ago, Mrs. Joseph Matthews passed away at the home of her son, Elmer, in that village on Wednesday last, May 4, after an illness of about three weeks. She was in her 89th year.Mrs. Matthews, whose maiden name was Agnes Emiline Radfield, was born on lot 16,
Concession 1, Innisfil. She attended Cherry Creek school and sixty-nine years ago on May 4, which was also the date of her death, she married the late Joseph Matthews, who predeceased her in 1939.Mr. and Mrs. Matthew farmed on
Concession 10, West Gwillimbury, on the farm now occupied by their son, Graham. Mrs Matthews' death recalls bygone churches of the district because she attended the old Zion Methodist and later Mount Pleasant churches. After these churches were closed she attended St. John's Presbyterian at Coulson's Hill.Surviving are four sons, namely, Harold of Gilford, Ross of Thistletown, Graham of Bradford, and Elmer of Pine Grove. One sister, Mrs. Wm. Matthews (Ethel) of Toronto also survives.The funeral on Friday, May 6, was from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home in Bradford to Zion Cemetery. Rev. F. Berner, formerly of Churchill, Ebenezer and Gilford churches, had charge of the services.The pallbearers were three sons, Harold, Graham and Elmer; a nephew, Gordon Matthews of Niagara-on-the-Lake; a grandson, Harry Matthews of Thistletown; and a granddaughter's husband, Walter Graham of Toronto.

Description : Miss Irene Knight, who was a niece of the late Mrs. John McLean and an aunt of William Gray, former B.D.H.S. teacher, died very suddenly of a heart attack at her home in Agincourt on Thursday last.Miss Knight was for years a teacher on Toronto P.S. staff and retired to Agincourt about two years ago with her sister, Mrs. Gray, and the latter's daughter and younger son. Mrs. Gray died very suddenly last year as a result of a heart seizure and Miss Knight had continued to keep the home with Miss Jean Gray and James Gray.As well as the Gray family, Miss Knight is survived by a sister, Robina (Mrs. L. R. Ballantyne), whose husband is United Church minister in Galt, and a brother, William Knight of Toronto.
