Description : One of the best known and esteemed ladies of West Gwillimbury Township, Miss Sarah Jane Bowles, passed away in Newmarket Hospital late last Friday evening. Miss Bowles, who appeared to be enjoying good health, had been about her home as usual until stricken with a stroke about a week before her death.Born in West Gwillimbury Township on
Concession 10, a daughter of the late James and Jane Bowles, the late Miss Bowles had spent her entire life residing on the farm of her birth until coming to Bradford nine or ten years ago where she and her brother, Mr. Norman J. Bowles, with whom she had made her home, built a new home on John
Street.Attending the nearby school which bears the Bowles' family name, Miss Bowles grew up on the 10th
Concession and her life interest centred there and in her church, St. Paul's Anglican Church, Coulson's Hill. Her church was her life. She was a wonderful worker and supporter of it and its organization. She sang in the church choir for many years. She was treasurer of the Women's Auxiliary for many years and that group made her a Life Member upon the occasion of its 50th anniversary. She was devoted to the Chancel Guild work and for many years was secretary of the Little Helpers department of the church.Miss Bowles is survived by two brothers and two sisters, namely, George F. Bowles and J. Norman Bowles, with whom she resided, both of Bradford; Mrs. Mel Law (Laura) of the Pinkerton district, and Mrs. Martin (Clara) of Frobisher, Sask. She was predeceased by one sister, Mrs. George Morrison (Florence).The funeral was held on Monday afternoon from her home in Bradford to St. Paul's Church for service. Her rector, Rev. W. Johnston conducted the services and interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery, Coulson's Hill.The pallbearers were a cousin, Herb. Bowles, nephews and grand nephews, Fred Morrison, Peter Meher, Keith Bowles and Carl Bowles; and a neighbour and church friend, Percy Selby.Friends attended the funeral from Toronto, Midland, Oro Station, Orillia, Ottawa, Alliston and Beeton.

Description : Although friends knew that Mrs. Mina Kain was not well during the past three months because of a heart condition, it was believed that she was making a good recovery when she suffered a seizure at her home and was moved to Newmarket Hospital where she passed away on Monday, June 6.Mrs. Kain, whose maiden name was Mina Hawke, was born at Coldwater and spent her early life there. She was married three times, and is survived by her third husband, Mr. Kain, whom she married in Orillia twelve years ago. Three sons, the sons of her first husband, Frank Thompson, also survive. Her second husband, George Abbott, died about 19 years ago.Mr. and Mrs. Kain moved to Bradford ten years ago and during these years Mrs. Kain had made many friends who liked her cheery manner and friendly smile.As well as her husband, Mr. Kain, and her three sons, Morley, Stanley and Aubrey Thompson, Mrs. Kain is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Orton (
Lottie) of Coldwater and Mrs. Wright (Mildred) of Penetang; four brothers, Horace and Jamie Hawke of Orillia, Roy Hawke, Huntsville, and Morgan Hawke of Coldwater, and several grandchildren, one of whom, Mrs. Len. Fuller, with her husband and child, shared the home with Mr. and Mrs. Kain until recently.The funeral was held from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 8, with interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford. The services were in charge of her minister, Rev. F. G. MacTavish of Bradford United Church.Four brothers, a brother-in-law, and a grandson-in-law were the pallbearers, namely Roy, Morgan, Horace and Jamie Hawke, Cecil Orton, and Fern Regimbal, the latter of Kettleby.
