Description : A large crowd attended the funeral service on Wednesday, March 10 in the Grace United Church, with the minister Rev. Wells Robinson officiating, for Gordon Addison Black of Clarksburg, who passed away in Owen Sound Hospital after a brief illness.Mr. Black was born in King Township, elder son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Black of Bradford. He was educated in Schomberg and Bradford and Toronto Normal School, with further training in industrial arts in Hamilton and Toronto. He taught at Kleinburg, Allan Water, Kenora, Charlton, Pembroke and Dryden, before coming to Thornbury in 1953, where he taught industrial arts at Thornbury and at Macphail Memorial School in Flesherton, retiring in 1971.In 1941 he married Margaret Leishman of Hamilton, who survives.Also surviving are one daughter and one son, Gwen (Mrs. Neil Wills) of Edmonton, and Greg of Bognor, and one brother Alex of Toronto.In 1940 he joined the Gold Hill Independent Order of Odd Fellows No. 261, transferring to Thornbury in 1953, where he has held many offices including Past District Grand Master.While in Pembroke he established a branch of the Canadian Film Board, was superintendent of the United Church Sunday School there and coached hockey.After coming to Thornbury, Addison joined the Rotary Club, the Library Board, Georgian Camera Club, United Church and a member of the IOOF, Encampments, Cantons. Since retiring he has worked at photography, some for the Review-Herald and also private work.Tuesday night a large number of Odd Fellows and Cantons, from neighbouring lodges held a memorial service at the chapel.Friends and relatives attended the funeral from Toronto, Holstein, Bradford, Schomberg, Midland, Peterborough and Durham.Pallbearers were members of the IOOF, George Grant, Earl Hill, Jake Biersteker, Keith McGuire, Mel Hoggard and Robert Taylor.Spring interment will be in Thornbury Clarksburg Union Cemetery.
