Description : Frank Doyle, assessor for Newmarket for the past four years and one of the best known sportsmen in this part of the country, died in St. Michael's Hospital on May 1 as the result of a stroke following a brief illness, aged 73 years. He always was interested in municipal and community life.Frank Doyle was a link between today and past Newmarket and district sports history. For many years he was secretary of the Ontario Lacrosse Association, while his brother, the late Tom Doyle, was president of the association. Later he became president of the Southern Ontario Lacrosse League which included teams from Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Aurora, Bradford, Barrie, Orillia, Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Bracebridge and Camp Borden. Last season he donated the Doyle Memorial Trophy, emblematic of Ontario Minor Lacrosse Association Bantam C" honors and had the pleasure of presenting it to a Newmarket team after Newmarket defeated Kitchener and North Peel in the play-offs. He was also active in hockey and was an ardent bowler. He had many friends in nearly every branch of sport throughout Ontario because of his connections with lacrosse and other sports.Surviving are his widow; a son Eugene of Toronto; two daughters Mrs. R. Dickson of Oakville and Mrs. Robert Jolie of Mimico and six grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters. Six brothers and one sister predeceased him.The remains rested at the funeral chapel of Roadhouse and Rose Newmarket where requiem mass was conducted at 9 a.m. Friday. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery Newmarket."
