The following notes on the history of this bible were written by George Jackson in 2008:
"The Gardener Bible In the winter of 2008 this bible was offered to the BWG Local HIstory Room as a memento of the Gardener family who lives at Steele's Corners, the 14th line of West Gwillimbury. The bible came to us through the auspices of Mrs. Kay Boer of Stroud. Her family home had been near the Gardeners and it was through her efforts that the connections were made to have the Bible come to our Library. In this case there were two Bible's involved in this story which goes something like this. The lady who found theses Bibles worked at the Barrie landfill. She noticed these two Bibles when they were brought to the "dump" on top of a load of articles that appeared to come from a home that was being cleaned out. She retrieved them. The one Bible she has retained and the other one is here..... As I mentioned there were two Bibles. This Bible does not have any marking to identify it with the family. We assume it was in the Gardener family because it was associated with the other Bible that had the births marriages and deaths associated with thte Gardener family inscribed in the centre pages...."
"Dr. Bruce, of Toronto, was called here, professionally, on Saturday afternoon last to see Mr. Geo. W. Stoddart who had sustained a broken leg, at the ankle, a few days previously. The Dr. arrived here in his auto and remained a little more than an hour. We understand he expressed no fear of serious results and spoke hopefully of the break properly healing in due time."
"Mr. Geo. Stoddart, who is in the General Hospital, Toronto, continues in a very critical condition. Besides a broken leg other troubles of an inward nature have developed and the latest reports have not been encouraging."
"We are informed that Mr. Geo. Stoddart who met with an accident at our school house, and who is at the Toronto General Hospital, is able to move himself around in an easy chair."
Greenview Farm was the residence and farm of Richard H. Crake, wheat farmer, and covered 212 acres in 1906. It was located on the "Bond Head Rd.", or Highway 88 near Bond Head. It was first the Tyrwhitt Farm, owned by Colonel Tyrwhitt of Bond Head, before Crake bought it in 1903. Crake farmed here until 1914, when it was sold to F. Smelser. He was known to the town as Dick Crake.
Two separate articles on the topic of flood relief funds. "Holland Marsh Flood Relief Fund On Sunday a Holland Marsh Flood relief Fund was organized, with "Brad" Walker as chairman. Money is needed immediately. Many of the flood refugees are homeless. Their homes and everything in them are lost. Their crops, which are their livelihood, are lost. Send cheques, payable to the Holland Marsh Flood Relief Fund, addressed to the Canadian Bank of Commerce, Bradford. Cash donations will also be accepted at the bank or at the town hall. Remember - All cheques should be made payable to Holland Marsh Flood Relief Fund."
"Hurricane Relief Fund Makes First Contribution of $150,000 The Hurricane Relief Fund for Ontario has made its first contribution to the Holland Marsh of $150,000/ This is for rehabilitation purposes. Just as Premier Leslie Frost's pledge of $100,000 is just a start to get the great task on dikes and land on the marsh started, so too is the Relief Fund's $150.000 a start on rehabilitation."
