Description : The passing of Mrs. Donald S. Gray on Sunday, May 18, removed one of Scotch Settlement's well known and esteemed residents. Mrs. Gray had been ill for a long period and death occurred at Dewson Private Hospital, Toronto.Mrs. Gray, who was the former Lavina Elizabeth Stewart, was born in Tecumseth Township, the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Jane Stewart. While she was a child the family moved to
Concession 11, West Gwillimbury, which was her home until her marriage to Donald S. Gray in 1906, when with her husband she took up residence in the Scotch Settlement.For more than fifty years the Settlement was her home and during that period she was an active worker in the Scotch Settlement Presbyterian Church, in the Sunday School of that church, and in the Women's Missionary Society, of which she was a Life Member.Mrs. Gray is survived by her husband; two sons, Errol and John; one brother, John R. Stewart; and two sisters, Miss Roberta Stewart and Mrs. H. L. Albrecht.The funeral was held from the Lathangue-Kilkenny Funeral Home in Bradford, the services being conducted by her former minister, Rev. E. C. McLarnon, now of Toronto. Interment was in the Scotch Settlement Presbyterian Cemetery.Pallbearers were three nephews, namely, Gordon Stewart, Douglas Stewart and George Albrecht; and three members of the Scotch Settlement Church, Charles Watson, Matthew Hodgson, and Murray Faris.
