Description : Following a long period of failing health resulting from a stroke suffered six months ago, Howard Allan passed away suddenly, January 24, 1965, at Toronto General Hospital. Services were conducted by the Rev. T. Page, January 27, in Churchill United Church.Born January 13, 1883, son of Scottish parents, John Allan and Agnes Barclay, whose genealogy is compiled in a book edited during the centennial year of Innisfil Township, Simcoe County, he was the last survivor of a family of eight, namely: F. B. Allan, M.A., F.R.C.S., Professor of Chemistry and Dean of Arts in the University of Toronto; Gavin C. Allan, J.P., past reeve and clerk-treasurer of Innisfil Township, appointed Justice of the Peace, 1936; Walter Allan, past president, Centre Simcoe Liberal Association; Jack Allan, who had been a very successful Saskatchewan farmer, Addie Allan, Mrs. Samuel Todd of Churchill; and Roy and Margaret, who died at an early age.Mr. Allan married Edna Sturgeon, Cherry Creek school teacher and organist in the Churchill United Church, and resided in the family homestead, his birthplace,

Then he took a position in the library of the Ontario Government Library at the Parliament Buildings, Queen's Park, where he remained until his retirement. During this time he retained a close interest in the activities of the Churchill community.He spent 67 years in active church work, having taught the adult Bible class for 26 years, and was Clerk of the Session for 38 years and sang in the choir.Having been trustee of Cherry Creek School, he never missed a Christmas concert. His father's family, his family and some of his grandchildren had started their education there.Mr. Allan was elected president of Centre Simcoe Liberal Association for the sixth term in 1936. He was president of the Churchill Softball Team in 1930, the year they won the championship. He was an active member of the High Park Curling Club, Toronto, and Churchill Curling Club, having assisted financially in the building of the new Curling Rink, and donating the John Allan Trophy" in memory of his father also an excellent curler.The family Ronald Allan Churchill Grace (Mrs. Wm. Constable) Toronto Louise (Mrs. Barry Tromblay) Downsview and grandchildren Brenda Pamela Johna Ralph Lynda Lou Allan and Jane will miss him.The community has lost a valued servant the family a cherished adviser and friend and the seven grandchildren an ardent admirer and example of a steadfast life richly endowed.The floral tributes portrayed the esteem in which he was held by community relatives and friends.The honourary pallbearers were: Dwight Rogerson Wm. Boake Reuben Lucas Wilfred Stewart Robert Sinclair and Robert Campbell.The pallbearers were: Russell Stewart Allan Todd Bert Bonney Cyril Spence Wm. Description : South Simcoe lost one of its best known ladies in the sudden passing of Mrs. Gavin C. Allan at her home in Lefroy on Monday, March 30. Mrs. Allan had been ill but a few days.Mrs. Allan was best known in the Bradford area through her work in the Women's Institute. Throughout a long term of years she had served on the executive of South Simcoe District W. I. and later was honoured with the District presidency. At the time of her death she was a South Simcoe District past-president. Throughout almost fifty years since her home Institute branch was formed she had been a most active and capable member of the Churchill branch.A native of Allandale, Mrs. Allan, whose maiden name was Florence Campbell, was married in 1901 and moved to Churchill where she was active in the affairs of the community and the United Church.Surviving are her husband, Gavin C. Allan, Lefroy, and three daughters, Mrs. M. H. Bell (Agnes), King, Ont.; Mrs. R. J. New (Margaret), Chatham, and Mrs. G. V. Robinson (Bessie), Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; one son , Jack, at home, and one sister living at Churchill, Mrs. E. H. Scott.Funeral service was held at Churchill United Church and was conducted by Rev. H. F. Sanders. Family service in the home was conducted by Rev. J. Morris. Interment was in the Sixth Line Cemetery.Pallbearers were Howard Allan, Blythe McConkey, Fred Peacock, M. H. Bell, G. V. Robinson and R. J. New.

Description : Early Friday morning, March 2, citizens of Lefroy were grieved to hear of the passing of Mrs. Walter Allan, resident of the village for some years.Born Edna Maud Bateman, she was the elder daughter of Robert Bateman and Sarah Sawyer. She lived with her parents on the home farm,
Concession 1, Innisfil, west of Highway 11, near Fennells, on the property now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Blake Constable. With her parents she attended the little Methodist Church at Cherry Creek and was also a member of the Sunday School and choir. She received her education in the little red school house of that hamlet and Bradford High School.In 1905 she married Walter Allan of Churchill and with her husband began their married life on the fourth concession of Innisfil. In later years they wanted a larger acreage and purchased the old homestead of an uncle, the late Thomas Allan, adjoining the cemetery, known throughout the district as Burnside Farm".With her husband and family she attended the Presbyterian Church in Churchill later becoming the United Church of Canada and was a faithful member in all its branches receiving a life membership in the W.M.S. Retiring from the farm they took up residence in Lefroy and transferred their membership to Lefroy United Church.Mrs. Allan had a quiet retiring personality yet she faithfully served her Master in many ways of which the public did not know.On Dec. 151961 she was the honoured guest at a birthday party in her home arranged by her daughters and intimate associates and with dignified aplomb blew out the candles on her 85th birthday cake.Predeceased by her husband parents one brother Murwood and one sister Luella (Mrs. Clarence Wood of Bradford) she leaves to mourn her passing five daughters Eva (Mrs. W. T. Reid) Lefroy Bertha (Mrs. T. L. Fraser) Toronto Ruth (Mrs. Russell Stewart) Churchill Kathleen Lefroy and Dorothy (Mrs. Jack Constable) Gilford and four grandchildren Glenna (Mrs. Len Boudreau) and Allan Stewart Bonnie and Sharon Constable.Service was conducted by her pastor Rev. Frederick Jackson from Lathangue Funeral Parlors Bradford with burial at Stroud Vault. Later interment in the family plot at the 6th Line Cemetery Innisfil. Pallbearers were Allan Todd Ronald Allan Matt Bell Lloyd Sawyer Bill Kelly and Ed Jackson.Many beautiful baskets of flowers expressed the silent sympathy of friends and relatives.Friends from a distance were from Toronto Bradford Barrie Brampton Cooksville Niagara Falls Orillia and Mission City B.C."
