Description : A resident of West Gwillimbury Township for many years, Mrs. Josephine Lee died at Simcoe Manor, Beeton, on Sunday, September 2, 1956, following a long illness. She was in her 79th year.Born in Scarboro Township on March 18, 1878, the deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. Joseph Higgs and Mrs. Ellen Gibbons Higgs.Her first marriage was to Alfred Welch who died leaving her a young widow with two sons. Her second marriage was to James Lee of West Gwillimbury and for many years they farmed in the Pinkerton area, where she was a member of St. Luke's Anglican Church.Surviving are two sons, J. Edward Welch of Toronto and G. Frederick Welch of Barrie; a grandson, Harold E. Welch of Harpendon, England; two sisters, Mrs. P. Doan and Mrs. W. Cummings of Crossland; and a brother, Joseph Higgs of Barrie.Funeral service was held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Coulson's Hill, with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. W. S. Johnson of Bradford officiated and the organ music was played by Mrs. Atkinson of Cookstown. Pallbearers were Lorne Doan, Harold Martin, Earl Cummings, Melvin McKellar, Jack Marshall and Harold Smith, all nephews of the deceased. The flower bearers were Calvin Madill, John Parks and Melbourne Law, while among the long-time friends and neighbours attending the funeral were Dalton Meher, Seward Lee, John Ramsay and Emerson Madill.
