Description : Grant Duncan Gordon, 59, of Bradford and formerly of Holland Landing, who died in York County Hospital, Newmarket, on July 31, 1962, as the result, the local police state, of injuries received in a hit and run accident on Simcoe Road on the night of July 16, 1962, was, according to Police Chief Jas. Hastings, Bradford's first fatal accident since Sept. 28, 1957.The day following the accident, Chester May, 21, of R.R. 4, Bradford, was arrested by the local police and charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident and later was charged with dangerous driving and careless driving.

Description : A respected resident of Nottawa, Ont., Job Metcalfe, passed away in Collingwood General and Marine Hospital after a short illness on Saturday, July 21, 1962.The only son of the late Thomas and Rebecca Thorpe of Bradford, he was born Aug. 4, 1874, and was raised on a farm in The Hollows" West Gwillimbury Township.In 1906 he married Lydia Beatty of Lefroy who died in 1913 leaving him with three pre-school children: Frank of London Beryl (Mrs. D. J. Metcalfe) Paisley and Dora (Mrs. Henry Southern) Cannington.Later he married Ida Cook of Southampton. To this union three daughters were born: Anne (Mrs. Neil Johansen) Toronto Mary (Mrs. Herman Prentice) Margaret (Mrs. Ken McIntosh) both of Collingwood.Besides his widow and family eleven grandchildren three great grandchildren and one sister Mrs. Thos. Allen of Bradford survive him.Leaving his home farm in "The Hollows" in 1923 he farmed at Thornton and Tottenham and was proprietor of grocery stores in Nottawa and Box Grove. In 1951 he retired to his present home in Nottawa.A service conducted by Rev. Johnson of Nottawa United Church was held in the Mumford and Crawford Funeral Chapel Creemore Tuesday July 24 and he was laid to rest in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Bradford.Close friends of the deceased acted as honourary pallbearers: Messrs. Alex Mullin Bob Martin Dan Schwandt Ernie Taylor Gordon Prentice Tom Reid.The active pallbearers were Harvey Dobberthien Bill Ford Bob Hustins Gilford Mullin R. D. McEachern Jim McKean.Relatives friends and neighbours attended the funeral from Saskatchewan Paisley Southampton Gormley Stroud Toronto Lindsay Orillia Cannington Markham Bradford as well as Nottawa and Collingwood."
