"Miss Barbara Stewart, former Bradford public school teacher, has been awarded the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal. Miss Stewart, who retired last year after 36 years of teaching, said from her Markham home Friday, "I don't know how I got it or who recommended me. It came by registered mail last month and it was a complete surprise." She joins Bradford lawyer Charles Evans as a recipient of the medal, awarded to persons who have made outstanding contributions to the community. She said she had just returned from a trip to Germany, and would soon go back to Bradford public school for a day to tell the students about her trip. As for retirement, "I'm just loving every bit of it.""

"This week's photo was submitted by Mrs. Dorothy Marks who provided most of the photographic material for the Bradford centennial book now available at the town hall. The building above was the office for Thompson Smith's mill in Amsterdam, a little community of lumber mills just south of Bradford. In the early 19th century, lumber mills flourished south of the river, employing about 150 men. In this photo from the left are Robert Collings, George Taylor, Miss Scott, Mrs. W. McKinstry (Ida Collings), James Spence (seated), Jack Davey, James Scott, Sam Scott, Unidentified, Jack Busby, and Tommy Mulligan."

Fred "Collie" Collings probably knows more about the history of Bradford then anyone, and that's one reason why he was asked to help compile the historical map reproduced below. Mr. Collings, the town's first tax assessor, was presented with a framed copy of the map at a recent council meeting by Mayor Roy Gordon. The map was drawn by Boz Posilovic of the town planners Proctor and Redfern. Queen's Silver Jubille medal recipient Charles Evans remembered the contributions of Mr. Collings, and further mentioned the outstanding efforts of former clerk-treasurer Margaret Davey, and Mr. Evans. Mr. Collings is retired and lives in Bradford.
