In 1931 a giant elm tree 19 1/2 feet in width, cut on the West Gwillimbury farm of Frank Hambly yielded nearly 40 cords of wood. This picture was given to Margaret Hambly by the Gardener brothers of Steele's Corners. It shows their father William Gardener who cut the tree with his sons. The tree was 104 feet high and stood near the eastern fence line on lot 19, concession 11, today on the farm of Jack and Margaret Hambly.
