Porter, William Henry obituary

Description : Dr. W.H. Porter, L.D.S. Born on February 27th, 1837, in Dublin, Ireland. Came to Canada when he was an infant. In 1868 was granted a license by the Dental Board of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons. Practiced in Bradford for over 40 years. In 1866, he married Mary, daughter of Capt. R.B.C. Playter, Holland Landing, Ont. She survives him. Father of Dr. Fred Porter, of Orillia, who graduated from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and Toronto University. Also survived by three brothers, Rev. G.H. Porter, of Little Metis, Quebec, Samuel, of Lindsay, and one living near Rochester, N.Y. Interred at Holland Landing cemetery.

Campbell, Amelia Long obituary

Description : Age: 92nd year. Born December 25, 1815. Came to Canada from Ireland with her parents in 1823. Her father, John Long, settled in West Gwillimbury when it was a forest. Widow of the late Robert Campbell, whom she married in March, 1836, in Toronto. Also predeceased by a son, and three daughters.Survived by five sons and two daughters. Had 10 children, 33 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. Interred at Newton Robinson cemetery.

Description (from pg 4): In Bradford, on Tuesday, May 5th, 1908, Robert Gummerson, in his 93rd year. The funeral will leave his late residence on Thursday, 7th inst., for St. John's cemetery, Tecumseth.

(from pg 5) "Mr. Robert Gummerson died on Tuesday in the 93rd year of his age. He had been ill for a year or more and the ultimate cause of his death was infirmities incident to old age. He was a man of quiet disposition, much respected and a member of the church of England. He resided in Bradford a number of years his daughter keeping house ofr him. Funeral takes place today at 1 o'clock."

Young, Rev. Egerton Ryerson obituary

Description : Rev. Egerton Ryerson Young. Age: 70th year. Noted Canadian Missionary and Author. Born in Smith's Falls in 1840, a son of Rev. William Young, a pioneer Methodist preacher. Taught school until 1863, when he joined the ministry. Married Elizabeth Bingham, of Bradford, in 1867. Was called to the North West, and became a negotiator between the aboriginals and government officials. Returned to Ontario because of his health, and became an author and lecturer in England. He wrote about life among natives. Survived by his wife and five children: Rev. E.R. Young, P.A., Chatsworth; Mrs. R.N. Helme, Lancaster, England; Mrs. (Rev.) A.B. Fitzgerald, Hilton, N.J.; Mrs. Newton Brown, Toronto; and Mrs. H.E. Watson, Toronto. Lived at "Algonquin Lodge" Bradford. Interred in Bowmanville.

Long, Arthur Given obituary

"Pte. Long's Death.

Weston, April 12 - (Special) - Rev. Dr. Long received word to-day of the death of his son, Pte. A. G. Long, by shell shock in Belgium on March 29th. He was with the 18th Battalion, and formerly with the Goodyear Company at Calgary. He was well known at Brampton and Bradford. Pte. Long spent Christmas Day in the front line of trenches. Two brothers and two sisters and the parents survive."
