"Market day in Bradford in the year 1912 was a hectic event, as can be seen in this photo submitted by Mrs. Earl Bowles of Bradford. This shot was taken on Holland Street West looking across the street where McKinzey's Hardware, Ritchie's, and Tina's Flowers are now."

"This week's photo was submitted by Max Morris of Stayner and shows the Holland River from the CNR bridge as it looked in the 1920s. Mr. Morris writes that much of the marsh had not yet been drained when this photo (looking north) was taken. The fisherman in the foreground is believed to be William Semenuk. The docks on the right are now part of Varley's Marina where the Snowarama route begins this Sunday, February 5."

"The Gay Sixties held their final Euchre Night of the season at their hall on Frederick Street last Friday. The climax of the evening was the quilt, afghan and grocery draw. Shown with the quilt, won by Diane Beauca of Newmarket, who was absent for the draw are (from left) Gay Sixties president Irene Dow, Bertha Langford, who performed the drawing, and three of the ladies who made the quilt, Eva Wright, Irene Turner, and Harriett Sturgeon. Mrs. Dow expressed thanks to everyone who helped and took part in making the six Euchre Nights a success."

"Euchres continue to be well-attended at the Gay 60s club rooms on Frederick Street. Another euchre will be held Saturday, March 25 at 8:15 p.m. and on Saturday, April 1, again at 8:15 sharp. The last of euchres, which will include a lucky draw for a quilt, afghan, and box of groceries, will be held Friday, April 7 at 8 p.m. Tickets for these three prizes are now on sale at 50-cents each or three for a dollar. They are available now from any member of the Bradford senior citizens club. The club rooms were jammed with card players last week as the Simcoe County zone 11 cribbage tournament was held with 20 tables at play. The third in a series of euchres was held last Saturday in the club rooms."

"The Orville Hand Branch of the Bradford Legion elected its executive officers last week, and Ron Allison of the Mount Albert legion was on hand to present the officers with an Ontario and a Canadian flag. "This week's photo was submitted by Mrs. Dorothy Marks who provided most of the photographic material for the Bradford centennial book now available at the town hall. The building above was the office for Thompson Smith's mill in Amsterdam, a little community of lumber mills just south of Bradford. In the early 19th century, lumber mills flourished south of the river, employing about 150 men. In this photo from the left are Robert Collings, George Taylor, Miss Scott, Mrs. W. "This week's photo was submitted by Mrs. Alfred Davis of Barrie (formerly Olive Gregg of Bell Ewart and Lefroy). It shows the entire student population of the Bell Ewart Public School in 1913. It's our earliest class picture to date, with the tiny one-room school shown in the background. In the first row (from the left) are Finlay McKay, Burt Fischer, Cecil Bone, Bone, Dorothy Tillet, McKilvey, Ellen McKay, Charlotte Gentleman, Amelia Reid, Blacnche Trombley, Phoebe Hardy, Ivy Fischer, Beryl Willoughby, Olvie Gregg, and Russell Wheeler. "Professor Henry Day, who initiated much of the work in the marsh, operated the Kingwilbra Gardens beside Bridge Street. Tom Fuller Sr., who submitted this week's photo, was one of the workers on the marsh for the professor. Mr. Fuller recalled working for 17-cents an hour and then getting a rather substantial raise to 20 cents an hour. The work crew included Arthur Taylor, Jack Geddes (killed in action during the Second World War), Wilbert Mulliss, Bruno and John Carvalko, Frank Maurino, Herb Taylor, Homer and Howard Henbest, Gordon McKelvie, Bob Edney, Charles Hansford, Joe Sangdrige.
